Default 2010 Camaro + Audio + Body Kit + IPad + American Radio = WIN

Well, we at American Radio are having a lot of fun lately with our latest project. A 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS. The owner approached us about fixing an install that was done elsewhere in his ride, and while we were at it go ahead and take it to the next level.

We genuinely appreciate getting to do what we do for a living, and to be honest we like to share ideas and maybe inspire others to do big things (to be honest reading through forums and the such is a great inspiration for us to try new things). So here is our build log of our creation:

    To be Installed:
    -Razzi body kit
    -Accessory lighting
    -T-Rex Grille Upper and Lower
-2 Arc Audio Arc series 12's
    -2 Arc KS Series Amplifiers
    -Arc Audio 6000 Components
    -Hybrid Audio Imagine 6x9's
    -3 Stinger Batteries
    -Complete trunk sound deadening
-Complete custom trunk w/ custom fiberglass box, custom battery rack, custom amp rack, and custom trim
-Rebuild dash to flush in an Ipad and radio w/ steering wheel controls, bluetooth, and secondary Iphone/Ipod connections
    -Relocate HVAC controls and display

So that is the job at hand. We keep an in house photographer (he also happens to be really skilled with a ratchet as well) and here is the start of what ought to be a very large and detailed thread. This is what I have gotten from his computer so far:

    The Beginning:

    out with the old:

    Game Planning:

    First step - Deadening:

    End of day one:

and a quick spy shot of the routered frame for the radio and Ipad getting fiberglassed into the dash:

Over the weekend we hosted a regional car audio competition which kinda hindered some productivity, but nonetheless the body kit is on and done, the sub box is almost done, and the dash is moving along quickly. Stay tuned as more updates will come tomorrow, and please feel fre to ask me anything as I am always open to questions.

    Body kit work:

    Trunk work:

Mind that the top lip was merely a handle to be able to pull it out and not part of the actual enclosure:

    prepping the stock dash:

    No turning back now:

    yup that's better:

creating the back of the mount for the Ipad:

prepping the back plate for the flush mount openning for the radio:

Dash prepped for the first round of glass:

    And let the fun begin:

ARC 6000's going in the front stage. Awesome component speakers.

We sealed the baffle with some left over scraps of Stinger Expert Roadkill Sound Damping Material

    All the wires were tech-flexed

Tweeters were mounted in the OEM pods

Reinforcing the box with some more fiberglass and resin

Fitting and trimming the baffle for the speaker to sit flush

    Final test fit time

Box top was wrapped in black vinyl and custom battery mount was made

Heat shrink wrapped all the wires

The trunk is starting to come together

Back into the car for more Ipad fun

Fine tuning the trim work with a grinder

Back of the Ipad dash piece

    More to come...

The car is not so eye-appealing, BUT...I'm following, like hail, the building of the audio set up. Great work, fellas!

You know I'll be in in January! Later, QD.

Can't wait to see it finished. I am cringing seeing all that fiberglass work, I still have bad memories where the fiber glass got stuck in my skin...that was not fun

Stripped the rear out to gain access to the rear deck lid speakers. We found some interesting install tactic up there from the previous installer.

Our shadow box for the Amplifiers back side

This was what we took out of the rear deck lid in place of the stock 6x9 these were there.

    Back side

This is the big problem. Customer thought he had rattling. Turns out these speakers on the deck lid weren’t even mounted. They were just sitting in the ring and the tweeters were glued to the mid base speakers.

Back of the Hybrid Audio Imagine 6x9 going in the rear deck lid

Front of the Hybrid Audio Imagine 6x9 going in the rear deck lid

We made new baffles and installed them along with sound damping material

Back to the Ipad mount. We still have a ways to go to make this as close to perfect and that’s what we are aiming for. Again, this is still rough and just wanted to post up pics for the owner to see them.

    Back side

With the Ipad sitting in place

    The dash cutout

The Black Billet T-Rex Phantom Grills are in

    That’s it for now.

    Here are some updates:

Tinted the sidemarker lenses as well as the backup light lens

    one coat

after 3 coats. this left the darkest tint without shutting out all the light.

    wiring for the trunk

dyed the trunk liners black to match the new trunk set up

    amp rack in red suede

    more suede

red LED's in and amp rack faceplate fitting

mock up with the lights on

    mock up again

had the car back up on jack stands to do the led under body kit

there will be more additions soon. the ipad mount is taking shape and there are a few more goodies we need to work on.

Just curious, on average how much weight does a full audio system like this add to the car? Net weight increase from stock; since spare tire + tools are removed for audio.

probably about like adding another fullsize rim and tire in the trunk.

Actually we shaved a good bit of weight considering how bulky his previous install had been. All told i would put the total weight added in the build from stock at about 100lbs. Not too bad since previous install had the car bottoming out. . .
