Default Million Dollar Mustang.....Seriously thats the price

But this highly documented, 1969 Shelby Boss 302 Mustang Trans Am car has soldiered on, and is now up on eBay with a starting bid of $1.1 million.

Few cars are as historically significant as the 1969 Trans Am racers. This was the premier year for the Trans Am series, with Ford’s Boss Mustangs and Chevy’s Z/28’s duking it out for top spot. This car is the original prototype for the other Boss Mustang Trans Am racers, and was the feature car for Ford promotions and press events. It wasn’t raced until the fourth event of the season, and took part in the next seven races. It’s best finish was fourth place at Laguna Seca in the hands of Peter Revson.

Revson wasn’t the only driver behind the wheel of chassis number 9F02R-112073. Famous Trans Am drivers Horst Kweck and Dan Gurney also drove this particular car. When Shelby pulled out of the Trans Am series after the 1969 season, it was given to Bud Moore, and passed through a number of collectors and even went on to win the SCCA National Championship.

It was eventually restored to 1969 specifications in 2003, using as many as the original parts as possible. This includes the original Boss 302 engine, which is estimated to have made 527 horsepower and 420 ft-lbs of torque.

This historical car has been detailed, obsessively restored, and meticulously documented. A finer museum piece there has never been.
I'll take one of these and this

Just a beautiful car in so many ways. I do think $1 million may be a little much for a car that never won a race. If I had that kind of money sitting around I would go for the Lancia LC-2 Canepa has for sale right now or the Smokey Yunick Chevelle they have as well.

It never won a Trans Am race, but it was driven by Dan Gurney and went on to win the SCCA Championship. In the market 5 years ago...it would fetch that price. Now though, you are correct. I will bet it goes, if it goes, for half that.

That's the best thing it has going for it and they are going to use that as well it being a prototype for the other cars as their main talking points. At the price point the car has to have room to appreciate in value and I think it's too high in order to do that and if it does it will take a while. If you wanted to get an American race car the Smokey Yunick Chevelle would be the better buy IMO. It was built for the Daytona 500, but never got a chance to race. The car has a great story behind it and it was built by Smokey who was a great engineer as well as racer. Just take a look at his history, I think he owns a few patents as well. In America NASCAR is king and you can mention Daytona 500 and people from other countries will know what you're talking about. With that said I also think it may be a little overpriced, but I just wanted to do an apples to apples comparison.

Man, I want that Lancia so bad right now. I never should have went to their site. Every time I visit it I spend like 30 minutes looking through all the pictures.
