Heat plays a huge roll if the motor isn't built for 25+ minute long sessions in stock formation. On any given weekend at Road Atlanta after about 15 minutes I will start short shifting 7000rpm-7300rpm to let the car cool on an S54 powered car in relatively stock-ish form.
Right now the car has a stock radiator and had a huge oil cooler. AC system is removed, so no condensors or fans other than the visco fan. I am going to get a big radiator this weekend and a bigger oil cooler. I havent nailed one down yet, but it will probably be a Fluidyne. Water temps were never an issue in this car, but oil temps always were.
In defense of the car, we had done about 20 blistering-screaming-WFO laps in 100 degree weather, after about 20 85% pace laps. According to my transponder, we were turning some VERY respectable times.
