Notice the trend? J is before K so the EJ isn't exactly based on the EK.
EJ & EK is the chassis designations for all models of the 96-00 Civics in Japan. EG (Del Sol), EJ (Civic), & EM (Civic SI) are the chassis designations for ALL Canadian and US 96-00 Civics. So the big picture is for over 10 years people have thought EJ's were coupes/sedans and EK's were hatchbacks but for over 10 years nearly every Honda tuner has been wrong. There has never ever ever ever been an EK sold [new] in the United States and there are no federally legal EK's here, only those brought over and bonded on a temporary visa.
*EDIT*
What's funny is the EK in Japan is not just the hatchback, there are 6 models of 4 door Civics in Japan that are EK's too. So where did America get the idea that the hatches are EK's?! lol!

Because the EK4/EK9 is undoubtedly the most well known "performance" civic, that happens to be a hatch. Its understandable that people refer to cars that look nearly identical to a true EK9 or EK4 as simply an "EK", even though technically it isnt.
That goes for the four doors too. Ive seen people refer to them as "EK sedans", when yet again, technically its wrong if the person is talking about a US spec Civic... but still, the two different models share many of the same essential designs and ideas. Thats all Im getting at.
I see what you mean, but I think youre looking at it in too broad of a sense. You might as well have said, "I like your go-cart". I mean, a go-cart has four wheels too.

They are obviously way different. But,
VS.
One of them is a true EK9 and the other is a mere EJ6. Its easy to tell that they have a little in common. No, they are not the same, but you cant argue against the fact that they have the same blood. Thats all Im saying.
lol at this thread
wow! I second that "LOL at this thread"
and most people say honda owners are jackasses, but the people starting stuff on here happen to be German car fans, ironic?
anyways, i like all the cars at this "not meet"
and those gold wheels look pretty decent on that integra
