I dont understand BMW Chassis codes at all. I thought they were up to E92, and now E89? If its not horribly complicated, can someone explain this for me?

It's just like the 911 chassis codes a mystery?

They don't just keep going up for each model, each model has it's own section but some things just can't be explained either: like why M cars have S-code engines and non-M cars have M-code engines.

All the years aren't exact but they're close:

    e81 2005+ 1 Series 3dr. Hatchback
    e82 2007+ 1 Series Coupe

    e83 2004+ X3
    e84 2009+ X1

    e85 2003+ Z4 / MZ4 Roadster
    e86 2006+ Z4 / MZ4 Coupe

    e87 2004+ 1 Series 5dr. Hatchback
    e88 2007+ 1 Series Convertible

    e89 2009+ Z4 (2nd gen retractable hardtop)

Ah, yes thank you! I've looked at a list of the BMW Chassis codes and was never able to see a pattern for whatever reason. I think I kept associating them with age.

Looks like they're switching over to F now...the new 5-series GT is F07.
