Yeah, I don't know why they're gone. I don't think they'll ever comeback, but I don't see why automotive companies wouldn't try. I mean, there are a good chunk of people who like them. They've lost their relevance. The motors are heavy, and now lighting technology and designs allow for much smaller housings so the need to conceal the lights is gone. It also has something to do with the European pedestrian collision safety regulations. Flip up lights can do some damage if you roll over them. You're right though, it adds a great deal of character to a car's design. The next big thing is LED headlights though so I'm wondering how innovative designers are going to get with those.
