Your average new truck that uses a Detroit Diesel Series 60 12.6L I6 engine makes:
    380HP at 1800 and 1350TQ at 1200.

You just need one of the bigger 14L 500HP engines for traction and maybe a 4 banger to run the hydraulics.
The whole thing is powered by hydraulics, even the 6 wheels. One engine would be impractical due to space and packaging constraints. I'm not a master on aircraft moving vehicles like you want to be but my guess is since they've been doing this a very long time, they know what is necessary to do the job. If a simpler way could be done I'm sure they would have done it by now.

lol no I don't want to be an expert - they dont make enough money and the unions screw em over.

There are too many things to run with 1 engine alone - but you misread my post - I'm all for 2 engines - but a 600hp diesel probably weighs in at 2500lb right I'm saying they're too big. Then again maybe the weight probably increases the power they can put to the ground and gives em bragging rights?! It doesn't take much HP to get this sort of work done since the work is happening so slowly (HP being work done over time).

Of course they "know what they're doing" - Microsoft has been improving on Windows for over 20 years so it should be perfect right?
