i did a few runs the winter of 07-08 and i also had a few close calls, thus why i stopped doing winter runs.
The north side of the mountains always have patches, you just make a few runs to figure out where they are...in the middle of winter they never thaw. Salt on the road just makes it easier to slide anyways.
I always preferred wet roads anyways, more fun and conserves tires.
