    Default Might as Well

I was going to wait until I had a chance to get some proper pictures but I've had the car since Thursday so I may as well share. No, I don't have the SAAB anymore.

I don't know how many people were wondering about my sig...I mean maybe some people thought I was just on an Alfa Romeo high while other people were just thinking "Bullshit, he doesn't have an Alfa."

Well...here she is ladies and gentleman.

1995 Alfa Romeo 164LS, 17" Alessio rims, Remus exhaust, 164Q 45mm intake runners, lowered on B&G Springs...all I can think of right now.

It needs a few little things here and there, the most important being paint (surprise) on the bumpers. These cars came in two-tone originally with black plastic bumpers. Whoever painted them did a horrible job because it's chipping on the corners.

I also have a wood-grain steering wheel and a set of European tail-lights that I'll be installing soon. My leather wrapped wheel is starting to get all cruddy. The difference between the Euro and U.S. spec tail-lights is mainly in the turn signals. The Euro tails have separate amber turn signals whereas the U.S. spec's turn signals have the whole brake light flash. If anyone knows about steering wheel installation and/or tail-light wiring, I'd greatly appreciate the help!

Anyway, the car drives great...there are a few small issues such as the horn that doesn't work and a passenger window that doesn't go down. I have a spare window motor in case that's the issue, or it could just be a relay. I'll need new headlight bulbs...HIDs maybe since this has the European spec headlights with projectors.

The family I bought it from are huge Alfa nuts and very Italian. They've got five other Alfa Romeos...a '73 GTV, a '74 GTV, and Alfetta Sedan, a Milano Verde, and another 164. They also have a 156 in Italy. They've taken great care of the car and I aim to keep it going. This car is very quick, extremely comfortable and it sounds incredible. It needs a bit of TLC as all Italian cars do...but yes, I'm enjoying this car quite a bit and I'm ready for all of the potential headache and heartache. It's all in the fun of owning an Alfa Romeo, right?

Oh wait, haha a couple pictures from his ad on AlfaBB.

I managed to keep this a secret from my friends for quite some time, so their reactions were pretty fun.

VooDoo...very good choice. Talk about a rare car here in the states. If you see fingerprints or hand prints on your car one day. It's probably gonna be mine unless there is drool too then that would be my friend's.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I already know of a a couple shops that work on Italian cars and most of the important stuff in the engine has already been taken care of in the last six months including the timing belt, serpentine belt, idler bearings, tensioner bearings, spark plugs, catalytic converter, ignition coils, etc.

Oddly enough, I just saw another black LS on the road this morning.

Thanks man! The Spider is a gorgeous car but I'm not so into drop-tops.

I've seen the 164 on old Top Gear where they compared it to its platform mates, the SAAB 9000 and the Lancia Thema. I know James May used part of a 164 for the limousine he built for the Top Gear Challenge.

Yea, his is gray/silver though. I want to say it's a GTV6 but I know those are pretty rare. But considering some of the cars him and his father have owned I really wouldn't be surprised if it was.

    My thoughts as well.

Its like "I love it... but is it worth the grief?"

Edit: Alfa intake runners > 99% of everything.

Already ran into my first headache with it today...failed emissions.

The guy I bought it from said it passed emissions in New Jersey, and I'm quite sure they've got stricter rules up there. I know it isn't the cat or the spark plugs because the spark plugs were changed quite recently and I have the invoice for the work on the catalytic converter.

I might try that "Emissions Juice" at Pep Boys/Autozone first.

Thanks man! You've got Alfa stuff? Haha nice, I'm going to have to see your inventory. The guy I bought it from...his dad has another 164LS in black that's for sale. It's also in great shape...but that also means a trip to New Jersey. I can vouch for them, great people, beautiful Alfa collection, and they've got a great Italian restaurant.

I'll definitely be bringing it to the Varsity...haven't been there in a while and that lot could use a dose of Italian.
