Default McLaren Mercedes SLR 722S Roadster painted in McLaren's Dashing Orange

The latest Mercedes SLR to come out of Woking will be a Roadster in a dashing orange, which will honor the historic color adopted by McLaren Automotive since its founding.

In anticipation of the presentation of the next P11, McLaren is continuing production of the latest prototypes of the supercar designed with Mercedes. In the meanwhile, construction has begun on the 75 super-exclusive cars dedicated to Stirling Moss, who raced the fasted time ever in the Mille Miglia in 1955 with a Mercedes 300 SLR. The career of the SLR coupe began in 2003 and ended in 2007. As expected, the production of the Roadster ended in 2009.

You can see the Stirling Moss SLR behind it.

that color is exquisite. I'd still have a scuderia though.

I think the color choice is great too. I bet a lot of people started to think McLaren's color was silver since they've been with Mercedes since 1995.

    To those confused:

    1972 McLaren M8-F

And to remind everyone, they even did it twice in F1 testing. Back in 1998 with the MP4/13 and in 2006 with the MP4/21

Does anyone know the actual name of that color?

I copy and pasted the link title so i highly doubt McLaren actually calls it "Dashing Orange."

Autosport's bulletin board had a thread on this where they argued between it being called Gulf Orange, Papaya Orange, or Rylands Traffic Yellow.

If I can recall correctly, it's always just been called McLaren Orange. I think it was just spectators and others who would call it Papaya Orange or Gulf Orange or whatever else. McLaren just calls it McLaren Orange.

Then again...I could be WAY off lol

Dude, of course the SLR is exquisite, but I just want to know how the hell you know soooo much about Motorsports? Every dank thread that has to do with European racing has you in it! . I'm starting to grasp a true understanding and respect for other manufacturers besides Honda because of you and the SPEED Channel. lol

But back on topic. The roadster is sick, but It still aint no Ferrari.

    Thanks guy.

Well, i got into motorsport in the late 90's and have studied it since. I actually know every World Champion of F1, WRC, MotoGP, WSBK, and every car that's ever won Le Mans of the top of my head.

Speed Channel was much better when it was Speed Vision. It wasn't Nascar TV back then.

I like that color on the McLaren F1, but not on the SLR.

I love that color, though not on the SLR...but it's got history, and I love when they incorporate little stuff like that. I think it looks awesome on the McLaren F1 cars.
