Hey guys... I'm a long time ih8mud fan and member... Bought my 86' 60 Series about 7 months ago, after a long exhausting search (for about a year) for just the right truck. I knew I wanted a 60 with relatively low miles and the ever rare "rust free" body / frame. Well, after researching, learning, studying here and asking a lot of dumb and not so dumb questions, I bought my truck by shear luck on none other than Ebay. Was the only one I found that met all of my qualifications and got it so cheap, it was worth taking a chance on. Truck showed up super super clean.
This truck has been restored with intent on a Trek / Safari look / feel, much like one you would see in Australia or Africa...
It's was a 1 owner truck... from Arizona, 135K and absolutely prestine rust free. The old guy I bought it from bought it new and used it as a third car for light camping and stuff around his place. Had one small ding in the right rear that I had fixed as soon as I got it. The paint is original, but after my body shop guy got ahold of it, you'd never ever know. The paint looks NEW... unreal. My mechanic looked over every inch of the truck, felt and looked up underneath, all over the frame, rear gate, rear wheel wells, not a spec of rust... the body panels in the rear wheel wells up inside feel smooth and brand new. He said he'd never seen one so clean like that. I had the original pinstriping redone and logos, grill, bezels.. replaced or refurbished.
The interior had zero tears rips or even stains, looked new. Did have a small dash crack. I intalled a new dash cover.
Other things I've done over the past six months:
1. Complete mechanical restoration... engine was resealed, timing adjusted, new belts, hoses, gaskets, new water pump, clutch, plugs / wires, muffler... tranny pulled and redone, new brakes, front and rear axles both rebuilt... transfer case redone. Everything was put back exactly like it left the factory, down to every last nut and bolt, being Toyota correct. Truck starts right up, no choke needed, runs extremely smooth and purrrrrrs.
2. I installed a Heavy / Heavy OME Lift from Cruiser Outfitters... pulled a leaf out of the rear springs to make it a Heavy / Medium so it would set dead even. I'm not a fan of the stink bug look... like it perfectly level.
3. Garvin Wilderness Full Roof Rack with Rack Spare Tire, Shovel and Axe Mount. Two Rallye 4000 Pencil Beam, Two Rallye 4000 Corner Beam and two FF50 Rear Fog Lamps... all Hella's.
4. ARB Front Bumper with Warn 8000lb winch and two Hella Rallye 4000 Euro Beam and Front Fogs.
5. Custom Rear Tire Carry Bumper made by SROR.
6. New steel wheels painted the accurate Toyota grey as the original split rim steelies were. These are 16"x8" wheels with new BFG Mud KM tires... for the tall skinny trek vehicle styling and ride.
7. Retinted windows, Inclinometer in dash, installed larger style mirrors, trek/expedition rack and front bumper sign-age, tuffy box with custom croc skin covering, sun visors and headrest covered in custom croc skin, SOR seat covers to protect the original interior.
Things coming soon / projects: Light wiring with custom switching, new stereo system with Satelitte radio, CB Radio, install my rear sliders (have them but haven't had a chance to mess with them).
Anyway, FINALLY nearing completion... it's gotten a TON of attention here in town and I'm quite proud of it. Finally getting to show it to you guys who were so gracious and helpful in me getting this thing done to this point. THANKS GUYS!
