so i can see everyone loves the LSx motors... reasons why? and its a close fight with the 3 Rotor.. but im really thinking getting the 454 from my friends dad.. what would we need to do with rear end and tranny?
Peek-a-boo mofucka what now?!
Keep it in the family and build a rotary.

i want to so bad but i have a 13B in my DD and i want a weekend driver.. something that people will be like WTF A V8!! but idk im still contemplating on what motorOriginally Posted by Fast-Tech

the reason the LSx is so popular is because they are light, reliable and powerful. The aftermarket is FLOODED with go fast parts for them. The reason why rotary lovers frown upon the idea is because it throws off the 50/50 weight distribution, but that can be fixed for the most part with a properly setup suspension. You speak of a 454 BBC...that will def. throw the weight distribution off...
ls1 fo sho!
there are few things in this world as tried and tested as a chevy pushrod v8...

I still say either the 13B-RE w/ upgraded single, like I'm running.
Or just go LS1.
The RE has larger intake and exhaust ports, which in our case, will help give better torque and low end power.
Courtesy of my brother Dave @ Lethal. Taken during my 13B-RE swap process...
13B-REW:
And here's the 13B-RE:
About 10mm larger.
Aside from the intake manifold, even the intake and exhaust ports in block itself are larger and shaped differently.
Stock for stock, the REW was rated with slightly higher HP...but running the same setup on this RE motor, as was on the REW before it....I'm SURE it will put it out more power.
My brother got it running yesterday, and says he'll get it tuned this Saturday for me.
I'm telling ya man, the REW is so unreliable to. When it comes to rotaries, they're the worst. The 13BT that comes in the Turbo II's is by far the most solid. I owned an '88 Turbo II with a Series 5 longblock and Series 4 mechanical oil-metering pump. It was ROCK solid, and never gave me issues.
Flippin' REW in my first FD...piled with my lack of knowledge at the time...yeah, it was a nightmare. You throw on a single turbo, Power FC, and all the standard supporting mods...then sure, you're doing fine...but again....why??
I think I've made my point.

Don't swap in an LS1. What about the soul of the car?
Who cares if it is an "aluminum motor" (or whatever that means!)? I don't give a rats ass about what the scales say! My infallible logic tells me that a v8 has to be heavier than God's gift to the automotive world, even if there is hard evidence to disprove it!
Sex Appeal? I MUCH prefer the sound of a 2 stroke gardening tool to the gross, overly masculine ruckus of one of those big nasty v8s.
Reliability? If you don't have the desire to treat your car with the love and devotion (rebuilding the motor every 40k miles) that it deserves, then you shouldn't own the ultimate Japanese supercar! A true enthusiast should enjoy making sweet, sweet love to his car with each rebuild.
Performance? Who cares if you can throw a $200 cam in the car and pick up 100whp? I think that's cheating.
LS1's suck!
Be original, because originality is what it is all about!
I've considered building my own car out of spoons and paper mache just so I can be original.
i think you my friend have changed my mind... should i reall just stick with a rotary? yes or no? i mean a 3 rotor is pretty expensive but i could build a 13B to just as fast a V8 right?Originally Posted by NoRotor

V8 for sure !
not sure yet.. found a Turbo II motor and trans for pretty cheap..
Peek-a-boo mofucka what now?!
how are you going to drive the car (staight line, autox, road course, rally ect)??? If you have the money then do the rotary. If you want to keep a lean budget and are only concerned about straight line speed then a V8 is definately the way to go.

LS_ is first choice,
second choice would be a big block 7.4L 454 out of a late 90's suburban ^_^
could probably find one of those pretty cheap, we have an N/A 20b at the shop. 300ft lb torque with no turbos.....and the wankel guys won't chop off ur head
we're gonna do a 2j in an FD very soon too, so whatever motorset you can afford you can call and have Kyle do ur fab stuff

Some mild head work and mild came will get you 450 rwhp. A more aggresive cam and heads will get 500 rwhp, but will not be as street friendly. A stock ls1 can get you deep in the 11s on motor if set up right and still be hell in the twisties.Originally Posted by driftjunior

Shop around on ls1tech. You can get a complete pull out motor, 6 speed tranny, wiring harness and pcm if you are patient for about 3-4k. A good used cam and some worked over stock heads for 500-800 bucks.Originally Posted by driftjunior
