Default Sultan of Brunei Supercar Collection

'The Sultan of Brunei is the head of state and head of government in Brunei and was the richest man in the world for a long time . There are quite a few carnuts in the Royal Family of Brunei. Their collection is unique, having custom Ferrari's, Aston Martin's, Rolls Royce's, AMG Mercedes-Benz's, etc. that have been modified by the factories for the secret car collection.
This is the biggest picture collection of their cars on the net. Enjoy. '

    more pics of whole collection

Its estimated at 5000-6000 cars. Then there are the bikes, boats, planes, etc.

Car and Driver was the one of the first magazines to show pics inside the "warehouses"

Though many of them are too precious to drive, it is quite sad that they have to rot in some warehouse and hardly ever come out. I'm with you on that one.

Some of the cars are really rotting too. In addition to the warehouses, many of the older cars are stored outside exposed to the elements. Exposure in a tropical, high humidity environment is just about the worst thing you can do to a car. So all these one-off MB's, Bentleys, Ferrari's, etc are rusting and their wood and leather interiors are rotting away.

You don't know have the story.

Some are parked in a way where it could take hours to get the car out.

Other times, one car could be cannibalized to fix another car, and then cannibalized that car to fix the original. ALL IN ONE NIGHT!

The most heartbreaking thing to me was what happened to over 1400 Rolls Royce rims and 400 motorcycles.

Rolls Royce came out with a new design and he ordered a replacement for every car. The old rims were then dumped into the South China Sea.

Same fate was meet for over 400 "old" motorbikes.

You know that most of his car list has been published.

Just remember there are many more. He owns a single version of every World Championship winning Formula 1 car since 1980. (This was verifed upto 1999)

They arn't just driven by him. It is the royal family and members of staff. Most of the Rolls Royces are driven by other people.

So if you were given Duesenberg model J, you'd drive it till it broke and then buy another car?

Cars are meant to be driven - rare pieces of history are not.
Driving = damage. You can only fix it up so much.

I know people who treat their Z06s like they're some high dollar masterpiece. Now that is stupidity. Treating a piece of history like its just another car is even worse.

I can agree to an extent. In the Pebble Beach Conquour, a special road trip around Monterey bay is held. Besides giving a car points for the judging, it is also the only time of year many of these cars are driven.

I feel taking these million dollar machines on an actual road, in traffic, is a big NO!

But, an event designed for these cars to do what they were built for is necessary. They are cars, not statues.

That is why the Monterey Historics and the Goodwood festival are so important to race fans. These are cars that haven driven in 40, 50, 60, maybe even 90 years and finally get a chance to actually drive.

Most collectors are moving into this mind frame of a locked away car is a waste.

In the Sultan's case, driving 5,000 cars could be a challenge.
