No sir. When Datsun/Nissan first came into the scene, it was known as DAT. I believe these were the initials of the founders. They were making their cars in the 19-teens. I know they built a 2-seater that they called the Datson which meant "son of DAT." In the late 1930s, the comapny was sold to another group with the Nissan name. They were still making cars using the Datson name and eventually changed it to Datsun because the word Datson was very close to the Japanese phrase, "losing money." I'm not sure of the how it goes from there, but both Nissan AND Datsun were making cars in Japan into the 1940s. Nissan was primarily building for the military.Originally Posted by jdmjames
