Following up on the mystery Ferrari mule we spotted a few weeks back, these new and exciting spy shots show the very first stages of a development program that should ultimately lead to a successor for the Enzo–currently code named the FX70.

Housed in the shell of a F430 Scuderia, the keys to the ultra-supercar hidden inside can be seen with a massive, Murcielago-style center-mounted exhaust, a wider track, and suspiciously upgraded rear wheels and tires. Our photogs on the scene also tell us that the FX70 mule sounds pretty amazing, further hinting at the potential under the deck lid.

Ferrari is working on two separate engine alternatives for the neo Enzo, a twin-turbo V-8 capable of roughly 700 horsepower, and a twin-turbo V-12 which should make 50 to 100 horsepower more. Despite the obvious cache of rocking a supercar-standard twelve-cylinder engine, we’d expect the times and temperament of the current automotive climate to push Ferrari towards the V-8. More as we know it.

NO, this is not the Ferrari 430 Scruderia, that Michael Schumacher crashed some weeks ago, that’s been badly repaired and got a re-paint. This 430 is a mule for the upcoming Enzo successor.

We can notice that the track is wider and the wheelbase is slightly longer. In the rear, the first thing that really caught our eyes is the massive Murcielago looking exhaust pipe in the middle. And the sound of this car is just great. The normal exhaust pipes from the Scruderia are just fake.

For the new “Enzo”, still called FX 70 internally, Ferrari is working on two different engines alternatives. First one is a twin-turbo V8 producing about 700 horsepower, and second one is a twin-turbo V12 delivering some 50-100 horsepower more.

It’s a difficult choice, to keep the supercar status they should keep it a V12, but with the CO2 discussions
and the popular downsizing the V8 twin-turbo could well be a good decision for Ferrari.

With more carbon fibre in both chassis and body, this will hopefully be a true lightweight super car

Im trying to find a pic of a car they brought out. Don;t really look at the F430 as reference. Look at the short wheelbase. And the V8 TT vs NA V12 debate is about to reach 1 years old.

i doubt it will be in a 430 chassis, probrably just a shell.. to test run it.

But, i dont like too much of the newer ferraris.. i hope it has a extreme look like the f40/50..

Notice the much shorter wheelbase on it vs the ENZO based FXX, this is prolly a big hint on the FX70. Just look past the styling and what the car looks like underneath the panels.

In all honesty, i haven't a clue on what styling they wanna use this time. Remember that every supercar level Ferrari is strongly based on the current F1 offering. This time compared to 2000-2002, F1 has changed to 2.4L V8 and components that last from multiple races. + the very wild elements like double front wings, wheel covers, and wild engine covers. I really can't think of getting more extreme than an Enzo but combining an F1 car with something similar to the Millechili concept is what i see as the future.

I really can't think of getting more extreme than an Enzo but combining an F1 car with something similar to the Millechili concept is what i see as the future.

Ferrari needs to find a decent blend of form and function. The 430 was an excellent example. The Enzo, however, was very functional but also very ugly. If Ferrari is really going to stick with the F1 design roots then the next vehicle could be interesting looking to say the least. With either the V8 or the V12 on a carbon fiber vehicle, the car will be a lightweight racer for sure. I've no doubts about the performance capabilities of the vehicle just as I respect the Enzo's numbers. My final verdict will come down once we get an idea of what this thing will actually look like.

An internal document has apparently gotten lost somewhere along the information super-highway leading from Maranello to Beijing. The letter, bearing the signature of Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo, contains vital information on a new supercar coming from Ferrari.

The successor to the Enzo and beneficiary of the FXX program is labeled as prototype "FX150". According to the document, the supercar will be powered by a mid/longitudinally-mounted twin-turbo V8 producing 794 horsepower and 772 Nm of torque (approximately 570 lb-ft) hooked up to a version of the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission already launched on the California codenamed SF3 (presumably for the third-generation SuperFast gearbox) with shift times down to 50 milliseconds. The carbon fiber construction is said to keep weight down to 1300 kg (~2866 lbs), which, when coupled with the nearly 800hp on tap, is anticipated to propel the FX150 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a blisteringly fast 2.7 seconds en route to a top speed of 390 km/h (242 mph). Testing is stated to begin next month with an eye towards releasing the car sometime next year with a price tag between 1.2 and 1.3 million euros, which is even more than the Bugatti Veyron.
