Default Some bad ass Rock Crawling this past weekend

World Extreme Rock Crawling Championship held this past weekend in Jellico Tenn.
Lots of pics all from Pirate4x4.com. I'm just passing them along.
Weather was miserable all weekend. Either it was a downpour or 130 freaking degrees. Back and forth the whole time. I had the best seat in the house cause I was a judge.
There were only two hotels in the asscrack of a town so all the competitors and most everyone else stayed at the Jellico Inn and had drunken firework fights all night. That was insane.
Here is a video of the fights
    http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...deoid=37878177

Here are some pics of the event
    All credit goes to Pirate4x4.com

    I was judging this course

And here we are pulling out Shannon Cambell after I think he might have blew up his brothers LS7 rig.

All and all, awesome time. Big thanks goes out to Big, Lil', and Momma Rich

It's some of the most unreal driving I've ever seen. I've done it but never drove/competed so it was cool to see a competition.

It killed me to miss this event.

Jellico is such a unique venue. The Weavers have really added some great improvements over the past two years. I've never been there when it's been dry. With all the coal dust, the mud bakes into tread grooves and turns sticky crawling tires into drag slicks.

Congratulations to the winners, and I'm glad everyone had a good time. Big and Lil' Rich and the whole RHINO crew put on a great show everytime.
This isn't the worst summer I've had around Savannah.

They go on the point system. The lowest score wins.

I don't know of anything big coming to Dayton. I know that W.E.ROCK was there this past May/June.

In response to VUBUILT, there are two types: crawling and racing.

Crawling tests technical ability through a smaller course. Competitors move through a course marked by cones and are given points for any mistakes, back-ups, etc. The competitor with the lowest score after multiple stages wins. Very difficult driving.

Racing tests both technical, mechanical and bravery on a larger course of rock, mud, dirt and ...yes.. air! Basically one of the most extreme form of off road, these competitors fly through courses in pursuit of fastest times without killing themselves. Two courses run side by side (in XRRA) and in RockCross, all vehicles are on the same course.

For a better understanding visit www.werock.cc (for rock crawling) and www.xrra.com or www.rockrace.com (for rock racing). They have schedules on both sites.

There are smaller regional series, but these are the major events of each category.

    Hope that helps.
