He could have bought himself an IS-F for that kind of dough. More pics and details out here:

Haha, look at those damn brake calipers.

Not to threadjack, but I'm brown so I had to hijack something. Check out the Volvo Evolve C30's brakes...14 pistons!!!

    It just looks ridiculous now.

Yes, he could of waited to buy the IS-F. But in his case he can take credit for building his car instead of buying one that's fast or semi fixed up.

    That's a nice IS350.

Would 12 or 14 piston calipers even be worth having? I need to do some research?

And I thought six piston calipers were pushing it... That's crazy. Wouldn't you need a break booster to even clamp 12 pistons? Hey maybe that's it! They just spread the pressure over a wider surface area as opposed to just have 2 or 4 pistons and clamping really hard. I have know idea, just thinking as I'm typing... What do you guys think?

That's pretty much the idea but at the same time you trade off pressure for cooling capacity.

Definitely. And I still think that is way overkill. The ones I want for my car are 6 front 4 rear and the only reason don't just want 4 front and rear is for the bling factor a little. These are just rediculus

Those will never ever fade unless he's got some ****ty autozone pads. That would be the only benefit of having that many pots on a brake caliper. Even still its overkill for more than just bragging rights.

I dont get how they can even call that car luxury with the fast and furious roll call going down the front fender . . .

Those bitches would overheat real quick. So yes, they would fade. There's a reason they don't put these on sports/race cars...

    Nice IS350...

but, 12 piston calipers = fuckin' stupid!

lol at IA population and their "brake" common senses.

Brakes are more than just Pistons and Sizes.

Pistons alone don't define braking power. 12 pistons are just as good as 1 good floating piston brake if designed poorly.

There are more to braking than just the "pistons".

lol at people calling "unsprung" weight. When "real" company designs BBK, a lot of factors have been involved. There are things called floating rotors that reduce the weight of the rotors, etc. "Unsprung weight" only affects so much to the performance and power that it can be overlooked when compromised by the benefits provided by the BBK system.

Caliper sizes, pistons counts, disc brakes sizes, brake lines, fluid, etc. in the entire brake system is what really determine the brake. If it's that easy to design BBK just to Look cool, then anyone can do it.

The larger the BBK, doesn't necessary mean the better braking power nor the "loss" in HP performance. (this goes out to both the wowsers and the dissers about BBK).

Larger BBK designed right will help with the brake fades, as well as improve surface brake distribution. A good BBK will take less effort to apply the brake over the surface, keep the brake temp down, cool it faster, etc.

There're too much to explain, I suggest some of you do some readings before posting "hear-says".

To sum it up: 12 pistons doesn't really stop that much better. Nor the larger brakes will perform poorly because of the "weigh".

    Just my 2 cents.

Back to the topic, OP, good find. I've been following that car nicely and the owner certainly did a great job.
