New project

Alright, well here are some pictures of my new project car.

-1969 BMW 1600.

The 1.6l that was in it was replaced with a carburated 2.0l from a 2002. So technically it's a 1602 clone if I've been reading right about them. The motor has 2-3k miles on it but was parked after the rebuild. Currently to DRIVE it needs new front calipers and brake lines, and a new carburetor. I have an alternate trunk lid already I hope to replace tomorrow. The body needs work, but again, it's a project. I plan on doing a basic tune up this week and get it running.

I'm either thinking of putting alot of money into this car or a little. If I do all the body work myself my friend and I are going to do a dyi paint job. Otherwise I'm going to have someone professionally do it. Either BMW bottle caps or Konig Remember's slammed. Otherwise, I just want to make it a nice DD.


Any comments are welcome, anyone with any good info for parts or anything hit me up.

Nada, my uncle kind of gave it to my dad. He has no reason to want this car to work on so he was trying to sell it and nobody took it serious, so now he pretty much handed it over to me LOL.

I haven't done a damn thing to it yet (cleaning either) and I plan on getting started ASAP. I think majority of my tax returns are going to go towards wheels/tires/suspension.

I plan on getting an engine hoist and after I use it I'll just give it to him for the car since I really don't have a good place to store one anyways.

I plan on slamming it, new wheels/tires, Maybe recover the fronts and rear or get race seats and ditch the back seat and fill with carpet or something.

I hope to go either somewhere between emerald green and British Racing Green with maybe some bronze/gold wheels unless I find something better.

Route 1 : Original style daily driver
-British racing green
-bottlecaps
-Spend the cash where it needs to go, the suspension.
-Then refinish the entire interior to stock appearance with better front seats (stock e30 seats).


Route 2 : Modified daily
-Konig Remember's
-emerald green
-stripped interior with racing seats
-springs



Route one is better in my opinion because it's an older car and seems to hold a little bit more respect IMO.
It's also the cost effective route.

(I know someone with a set of bottlecaps for something around $150)

Yea? I was thinking when I can pull the motor and use that spray on rhino liner on the engine bay then prep the car myself and Macco it or something. But either way, tax returns = rims/tires or suspension. I can get the brakes sorted out for $50 or so and a few hours. I'm going to order a new carb probably Thursday.

ew, how's the suspension and steering? Shock towers rusted out? Unless it's been sitting humidity controlled room i'm sure the body needs a few dozen hours of welding and repair just to make it safe Otherwise it's gonna be a fun project

Surprisingly the main parts you'd think of being an issue are fine, it was in a basement garage for the the time it was parked after the swap. The exterior was just ****ty when he drove it so it looked like that before it was parked. LOL.



You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to speedminded again.

I'll be sure to make a build thread or something of the sort for the car, I just might not get much done until after the holidays. I was going to replace the trunk lid today but it was ****ty and rainy all day.

if not those i think the Konig Remembers would be an awesome choice too.

it just screams old Bimmer. even though the style of wheel was brought out some time after 1969.
