    Thanks for the comments!

i'm so tired of shooting cars with the 300mm! It's never as sharp as I want it to be! I tried everything from /4 to F/32 with the shutter from 1/2 a second to 25 seconds with very little change in the car itself. I even focused the center AF point on the front wheel and locked it then positioned the car in the shot how i wanted...it's one thing if it's handheld but i'm using a tripod with a remote. Grrr, i just need to break down and get a shorter lens.

The owner would be Austin aka Nippon on here with the blue prelude. If I get a car that new it's gonna be a 540i 6-speed otherwise i'm building a swapped rwd mountain run track car of some kind.

Yo Jason, you know I like to stay honest about photos and stuff (since I expect the same in return, I like people pointing problems out with my photos since it makes me better). I like the photo and how its composed but the sepia tone drowns out the car too much. It just takes away from the beauty of the car itself and makes it blend it too much with everything else. Its just too brown. Even the amber in the headlamp is brown lol. Im sure you know what I mean. One thing I always like to do in my photos, no matter if I leave them white balanced a certain way or change the tone of my photo is to keep the subjects colors fairly true to the original. Keeping the ambers amber, the reds red, the silvers silver, etc. Maybe not 100 percent but just enough so it doesnt drown in a river of whatever color.

Now as far as your liking to 300mm? Man that should be an extremely sharp lens. F32 definitly wont be sharp at all. Think of it this way, squint your eyes so you can barely see. That's like shooting at F32. The sweet spot for most lenses are F7-8. Set up your tripod and take shots from F5 - F12. From there open them up at 100 percent crop in photoshop. Compare each of them and then gauge which one is sharpest. When not going for some effect, always shoot in this aperture and youll retain sharp photos with minimal photoshopping. Exposure time has no effect on sharpness of the photo, when shaking and hand holding is taken out of the picture. Remember when shooting on tripod you have that split second where your finger is pressing the shutter button. When shooting night shots I always shoot with a timer. Because believe it or not, any bit of vibration from your finger hitting that button will screw it up when you look at it on the big screen. Okay so nevermind, I just read your post and you were using a remote. :-p

It's 100% natural light w/ no color modification at all normally i'll add +10 to 15 on saturation to make the colors a little richer but if I did that here it would be bright yellow like a post-it note. I'm gonna put it in Lightroom or modify on CS3 and see if I can make the colors a little similiar to how they would appear in daylight.

I only went up to F/32 or really even above F/12 just to compare the sharpness of the rock wall behind the car...if I focused on the wheel at F/4 the rocks would be a solid blur and so would the back of the car, F/12 made all the car sharp but the rock wall was still blurred....F/18-24+ made the car and wall exactly the same. I just despise having the back of the car or outline of it not as sharp as the front on these types of shots but the background can go either way...this time i chose to have everything as sharp as possible.

As for comparing sharpness between shots i'll make the setting adjusts while the camera remains in the exact same spot, zoom in to a specific area, then i can scroll with the wheel through the pics and the zoom will remain the that exact same spot for each picture allowing me to easily compare sharpness.

I have yet to figure how shoot in mirror lock-up, it's a simple function on the XT but I have yet to do it on the XTI and still have the ability to take pics...it locks the screen so you can't do anything when it's in the up position on the XTI but you can continue as normal with the XT

Ok, no prob, then its merely a preference in style. There have been plenty of times Ive hated the naturally lighting. (Orange and amber lighting is my most despised)

Sure understandable, but Im strictly talking about the sharpness of the subject. Not giving different DOF effects by messing with the aperture.

Ive never been a fan of on camera LCD's for judging the sharpness of anything in any situation. 100+ crop on anything on a large screen will give you better feedback than doing it on the fly in your camera.

Shoot in mirror lock up? I thought mirror lock up was for cleaning your image sensor? Maybe that's a Nikon thing, but us Nikon users shoot "bulb" for extremely long exposures.

How much of a difference is there when viewing thru a calibrated monitor vs one that isn't?

I'm wondering because I've seen pics that I've taken that look great on my monitors but when I see them via someone else's the results aren't quite the same.

I know it's OT, but I thought I'd ask since both of yall are in here now.

a huge difference, even moreso when you send your photos off for print.
i guess its just like standard way to let people with calibrated monitors view your work the way you want it to be then again, a lot of people out there dont have calibrated monitors :P

A good amount, but also if you are veiwing photos on a mid grade LCD then you also will notice a difference. For example, Ive got 22 inch Dells I work on. One is a Genesis model and one isnt. On the model that isnt a Genesis most photos shadow or midtones look like they were shot at a higher ISO than they were. I always try to work on and view images on the Genesis Dell monitor.

Some nerdy info on Genesis and what they do for companys like Dell and Viewsonic: Genesis Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS) is a leading provider of image processing systems enabling superior picture quality for a variety of consumer and PC-display products. Featuring Genesis Display Perfection(TM) technologies and Emmy-award winning Faroudja(R) video technology, Genesis system-on-a-chip solutions are used worldwide by display manufacturers to produce visibly better images across a broad set of devices including flat-panel displays, digital TVs, digital CRTs and DVD players. The Genesis technology portfolio features 135 patents, including analog and mixed signal System-on-a-chip design, DCDi(R) by Faroudja deinterlacing, TrueLife(TM) video enhancement and IntelliComb(TM) video decoding.

Yeah, it is...i do have the bulb option but i thought that was just for exposures over 30 seconds The mirror lock up is for cleaning but it's also a moving part when you release the shutter, you skip that step and it's one less thing that causes camera shake.

I've had mixed feelings about it...yes I see how it's good to be perfectly calibrated for work going to a graphic designer or large commerical job but a majority of my stuff is just online, one day I may get into prints but for the most parts its just online and for fun and everyones monitor is always going to be differant so not like it's going to really matter.

Its my car. I've had it for almost 2 months now. I still have my prelude but I bought the car so I could have a car that can actually pass emissions. I feel the S2000 is one car that really needs nothing done to it. I plan to keep it that way for a long while. (Now only if honda MADE tires) hah. Of course thats just preference. Thanks for the photo Jason.

    thanks Mr. Octopus.

I learned Japanese from my ex fiance. When we met, there was a language barrier. Desided to break it. But that was so long ago. Forgotten my doku-un, hiragana, katakana and kanji though.

I learned Japanese when I was in high school. Around the time you were with the Japanese one. What was her name again? I always forget. But ya I was in 10th grade when I learned that. Now all I can remember is what I learned from watching too much Initial D.
