I have a 91 Mazda getting the top chopped and body dropped in my folks front yard but I will make sure to drain the oil before I pull the motor so It wont pour all over my parents yard, and when I work on the ground I like to throw down some cardboard when the creeper is already in use.

Exactly. Gotta make your neighbors think you are nuts every now and then. Open downpipe and throwing flames works pretty well with that.

seriously.. this guy has no idea what kind of damage he is doing to their local water supply... if the epa finds out, they will fine you thousands upon thousands. it costs thousands to clean up even a pint of oil... from the pic posted, you have dumped alot more than a pint of oil..

ever heard of draining out the oil before the swap? or using oil buckets to catch the oil? or if you're too cheap for that, then grab some old blankets, cut open some garbage bags and then lay them down... use some common sense.

We do drain all the oil, from the engine, from the tranny, and all coolant fluids before doing a swap. some stuff comes off and goes on the ground. There really isnt that much on there.

If you really wanna work on your cars at home, do a favor for your mom and dad and clean up the garage and work in there. thats what i did. that way you dont have fluids and stuff all over the driveway and yard and you wont have neighbors complaining about you devaluing their property. Trust me, if you have an HOA and someone even down the street is trying to sell their house and they see this, they will do something. Its called curb appeal. no one cares about the back yard. If im dropping 170k on a house, i want the rest of the houses in the neighborhood to look good too. If i drove by and seen that out there, i would take my $$$ elsewhere

and just because there are no white people in your neighborhood it automatically makes it ghetto and semi-hood? I can take you to places that real hood and semi hood. some places where you REALLY dont wanna be. -2 for that comment

All jokes aside though, If my house was up for sale and i saw that.... WOW there's no telling man.

That's not to be done in subdv's at all Regardless of whether a HOA is in place or not. Simply an integrity issue there.

why im working on my cars, im am doing what I like, and I am trying to keep the mess down to a minimum.

Its not like i take my entire oil pan and dump in the creek behinde my house, its not like I drain the oil all over the driveway, plus I can get all that out
    I have before.

this has been going on for a few months and the neighbors dont complain

some of them even came up and looked at what were doing and their response was either interest in one of our cars, or "good job guys"

you see thats the problem... you think keeping the mess to a "minimum" is good enough. its obvious that your "minimum" killed the grass next to your driveway. do you know whats below your grass? its something called a water system. once oil or coolant or w/e is deposited into the grass, it finds its way into the water system which then pollutes the system. do you know what pollution is? do you have any conceptual idea how bad oil is for the water system? or how much money it costs the city to filter out the oil?

i really dont care if you work on your car at home... or even on your grass... but take some responsibility and make sure not even a drop of oil gets into the grass or sewers...

Good words, you know I have always had deep concern for environmental issues and I am not going to sit and defend my self when obviously I was at the wrong.

I did a sawp yesterday, (a z6 in a eg hatch) and I didnt spill a drop of anything. I will follow that same procedure over and over. Only thing I cannot controll is a little bit of coolant that comes out after I discount the radiator hoses.

but most of the time i use water untill the car is ready for the road so its not that bad, but when ever I know there is antifreeze in the system believe me it will always have a drain pan bellow it.

^^ good shit.. i never knew how bad oil was for the water system until i saw a show on dateline that talked about people who work on cars at home. its one of the leading causes for pollution in our water system.
