These Shelby cars aren't even Shelby's at all. They're made by Ford's SVT division with a Shelby endorsement. I love how they keep putting more power into it but do very minimal suspension work. The current GT500 is a joke and this one looks to be much of the same with more horses under the hood. Not to mention that with MSRP, people are paying around $60K for the current GT500 while the Saleen S281E can be had for about the same price depending on options, and it's a better all around car.
I'm trying to find a picture to comment with, but I can't find it!!
Has the Mustang rear-end cutaway and it says:
Live Axle
It's like running with your shoes tied.
the only mustang i'd buy is the Roush one because they actually tweaked with the suspension!

i think the Shelby GT500 is a piece of shit. 70k+ for a fucking MUSTANG? only expensive mustangs should be vintage. I mean it has impressive numbers but...70k? u could buy an '03 cobra and make it faster and have TONS of money left over....sorry...i think the 500 is just garbage and there is way too much hype about it.
o yea, saw that car at sema.....whoopi. lol

Pretty much. I'm not a huge Ford fan, but I do like the new Mustangs with the right packages. Base models are ugly as sin IMO.Originally Posted by TRYMY4.0

with the new GT500 you can put a 4.10 gear, DR's, intake, smaller pulley, tune and port the supercharger and be running 10s with full interior and a/c. Over rated my ass...
Do you plan on leaving your stock suspension on every car you own?Originally Posted by The Yousef

how much was a Boss 429 in 1970? like 6 grand tops. Good luck finding a real one for less than 100K now....soooo yeah...it takes some time, but im sure there are some old farts that are buying these and putting them up and handing them down to their kids when they pass.Originally Posted by TRYMY4.0

i wanna know how much suspension work and CG has been done with that Ford commerical...the one with the red, white, and blue mustangs. There's virtually zero body roll in the footage yet i know for a fact they have as much or more than a stock suburban on a dry skidpad.

90% of people that put good power into a mustang buy them for straight line performance. If you want to go around turns fast, buy something else.Originally Posted by Ran
the GT500 is meant as a drag car. if they make it into a road racing car they change the suspension out for the IRS. Stated above^^ the old ones did come with IRS but were used mainly for drag so they didn't care for the rear suspension and swapped it out.
I love both types of racing. I mostly only do drag due to my car being ginormous so it would be pointless to take it to the road course
naw, just need better suspension & tires!Originally Posted by TRYMY4.0

not in the 1/4 mile. the viper does shitty due to IRS, shitty tires, and just no traction what so ever. in the road course it would. the z06 has a weight advantage, both are aerodynamically inclined, and well, the mustang is a big frigin brick.Originally Posted by HypnoToad

yea,i think thats what ford was going for was trying to make a good 1/4 mile car...im waiting for that camaro thoughOriginally Posted by TRYMY4.0

My gf's dad bought one and it is fast. I drove that shit. As far as the corvette being faster. He has raced a few in his shelby and he has spanked some so ya. No to sure on the year corvette and stuff but looked like a 2005 when I was with him and we raced one and he spanked that ass. And his shit is stock. But they are nice cars. I would take the Vette though just cause im more of a Chevy fan. But as far as wanting to have a shelby instead of a Saleen. I have seen more Saleens than Shelby's in town. His is the only i have seen and it is from the Atlanta dealership. They told him they were getting only 3 and the first they got was red with white strips or something so he turned that one down and waited till they got the next one which was Black with white stripes. It looks damn sexy. The car burned through 1,2,and 3 and chirps 4th. It will hop from 80 to 140 in just a few seconds. I know this because I have been dating his daughter for 2 years+ and he letme take a very fast test drive.
Pics if you guys dont beleive me.

lol your funny. the Cobra is slow. Yea he raced a VETTE
not a C6 Z06. I hate chevy like a mug but I know a faster far when i see one. The Z06 is much lighter WAY more aerodynamic and a gt500 would not hang with it on the hwy or on the road course.
you saw stated above that the GT500 had the slowest 1/4 miles...and thing clicking yet??
ur dad has a GT500....greatMy dad has a 2006 SRT-10 Viper.
lol.
but the srt-8 has to be a fantastic buy.
Good thread. Far as my opinion goes Ford's still trying to play catch up with the C6 Z06. Yes the New GT500's may be listed at 70k but I can guarentee you by the time the reach the dealership floor the markup would be pretty outrageous. I think Ford needs to develop some time into a new and larger engine such as a 302 instead of seeing just how much they can squeeze out of a 281. Don't get me wrong they can make some good power but you have to heavily modify more so than others.
As far as the SRT-8's go they are awsome cars and fly under the radar. I believe they have somewhere north of 420hp stock but only problem is that they are heavy. So I would like to see someone buy one of those lighten it up and see how it does.
As far as the solid rear axel debate, IRS has alot of problems when you put alot of horsepower and lots of torque on them. But basically as previously stated they are mainly used for road racing and such. Solid rear axels are used for straight line. I think we will see a large increase in all brands preformance when Dodge releases the Challenger and Chevrolet bring back the Camaro. That's when things are going to get intresting.
On another note I must say I was quite looking forward to racing the GT500 and the Z06 on Forza 2 when it came out. Boy did I lol at that outcome.
