You can buy the paint at wal-mart, autozone, wherever...it comes in a can like this

Buy paint stripper. I bought the Lowe's brand name paint stripper for about $7-$8. It comes in a spray can and its the best thing I have EVER used. A whole lot better than Aircraft stripper. Pretty much completely cover the VC with a heavy coat of stripper, let it sit for 15-30 minutes, get a good, strong, thick wirebrush and get to work. The paints come off suuuper easy thanks for the stripper, and the wirebrush allows you to get into tight places. The wash it, dry it GOOD, cover all the holes, and sand if down A LITTLE just enough to get it smooth and to get off any of the paint that was left over. Then spray it in light coats, make sure its even, and if you want, bake it. I always bake mine.

I always use clear coat. But BEWARE, the clear coat gives different effects everytime. I wouldn't recommend clear coating the anodized purple. For some reason it didn't react too well and it appeared to start eating into the paint a little bit. If you paint the VC well enough with a lot of coats of nice even paint, you shouldn't need to clear coat

the right way of doing is stripping the valve cover and get it chrome or polish it,make sure you get it very shinny...then scotch brite it with something really fine then spray candy purple over it and then clear it.....trust me it takes alot of work but i promise you'll have the sickest valve cover out there it'll be well worth it..............

Baking makes a world of difference.

    That's how I did mine.
