Default The IA.com Whore hatch gets a new heart...

Ok, so i understand this car has been around the block more than once on IA.com, and yes it's had its share of problems. But it's mine now and all the kinks are worked out and she's a badass platform for me to start my build on.

I just picked her up about 2-3 weeks ago and my first order of business was ripping out the weak LS that was under the hood.

Last weekend i pulled her out and dropped in my favorite honda motor. The motor that most honda enthusiasts are highly uneducated about. The motor that most ppl make non-fact based claims about the issues that they have and how the sleeves suck and they can't take the abuse of a B, etc... The Torquey, Beast, powerful, and CHEAP H22.

I grabbed up a Jdm H22a w/lsd tranny option from Hmotorsonline.com. Now this is not my first H swap into eg/dc and certainly will not be my last. The H22 is way more capable than any other honda motor in making All Motor horsepower. That is, other than the K. But let me compare.... K series swap = 6k for 190-200whp. H series swap = 3k for 180-190whp. I know the K makes a lot more power across the powerband than the H, but for the 6k that the K cost to swap i could be making over 250whp N/A on the H22, so until the K's get cheaper, i'll stick with my H22's.

We only did a few basic modifications to get the platform setup for the future build. Given that this is my daily driver at this point i can't take the time to leave it outside the car and build it all at once, so, I will build it in stages.

This is my stage 1 so far, just minor upgrades and free hidden power.

    1992 Dx hatchback:

    OBD1 Jdm H22a
    M2B4 Lsd tranny

    ARP headstuds
Rocket Motorsports Dual valvesprings and Ti retainers
Exedy Stage 1 clutch, Extreme pressure plate and Throwout bearing
    Hasport Series 1, H22 into eg/dc mounts
    DSS stage 1 axles
    New OEM P13 headgasket
    New OEM P13 waterpump
New OEM P13 flywheel (Professionally shaved and balanced to 12.2lbs)
    No name slim fan

    H23 manual tensioner conversion
    Balance shafts eliminated
IAB's removed, making IM single stage
P28 chipped and socketed, fully dyno tuned with Crome PRO

Stock intake pipe w/no name filter
    Stock Jdm h22a header
    Apex'i N1 catback w/no cat

I'm not gonna say how much power she made till i get the dyno print out on my Photobucket page. Cause no one would believe it if i didn't have pictures...

All the H-series haters, hate on.....

PICS: ......Note, the only pic of me is the one where i am reassembling the intake manifold while kneeling on the floor. The other guys are friends and fellow members of www.Carolinahondas.com

Thanks everyone for the kind words....

Like i said, i'm just getting started. So there is def. more to come.

I haven't had a chance to get my "artsy" pics in my photobucket album yet. i just took some nice shots with a better camera the other day, but i need to doctor them up a little and add them to my album.

And to the guy that said "f-h22's and B18c5 FTW", you can bring that type-r on anytime to run my h22. No bolt on type r can hang with a bolt on h22. period. If you need it proved to you, just let me know. I love to break hearts and hurt feelings.

better pics up later tonight or tmw.

ummmm.... ur right, it won't hang with a C5....

It will demolish it! A C5 puts down about 165-170whp where a STOCK Jdm H22a without bolt-ons and the balance shaft belt removed puts down 180-185whp and about 20-25 more ft lbs of torque. And despite the many rumors about the weight, its only about 75lbs more than a B swap. H22 FTW!

yes the C5 makes peak power a tad longer and revvs higher, but the H22 makes more power across the powerband and more peak power overall.

the outcome is always the same. H22a owns.

Believe me, been there done that in my last hatch. owned many R, GSR, B16, LS, boosted b16, boosted gsr hatches, coupes and 4dr's...

At the track and on the street. Of course i didn't beat every boosted car i raced, but i did get many boosted cars on the street from a dead stop. Reason being, i knew how to get off the line and they didn't.

Anyways, we could argue all day about what motor is better. Instead, lets get to the point of this particular sub-forum and check out some pics.

I just snapped these earlier today. Took them all in about 1 1/2-2 mins. Didn't have time to get any motor shots, but i will get some nice shots w/motor and all soon and post them. Its just hard to find time working 10hrs a day, then being dad and husband directly after.

    Enjoy....

Why remove the balance shaft on an insanely unbalanced inline 4 cylinder? Seems like cheap speed at its best, more whp now but at the risk of ruining bearings later on.

    with no offense intended....

obviously another comment made without "personal" h22 experience.

here's a little teaser for all you H owns, non-believers.

These are some friends of mine that went to the strip in fayetteville nc last sun. I missed the trip cause me and wife were fighting and she was tripping about me making the 3hr trip.

Anyways, the black coupe is powered by a 100% stock Jdm h22 with non-lsd tranny, and is running on street tires with about 50% tread.

on the way there they were playing on the highway with a 12.5 second T/A and the coupe was pulling him over and over from 3rd gear rolls.

best time was 13.6@105 spinning 1, 2 and 3rd. Possibly a 12.9 car with slicks.

The stock h22a in the coupe was dyno tuned to 194whp by Jason Wadsworth @ phantasm in raleigh, using Crome Pro.

Me and the coupe owner also put together the motor in my hatch. Also tuned the same. His coupe is super sleeper. No dash, clearcoat peeling, etc... (dash was broken reinstalling). Everyone laughs when riding around, then they get their asses handed to them. Hung side by side with a couple 600cc bikes on the highway too, shoulda seen their faces.

anyways, Enjoy the pics and video......

    haha, you guys....

    you'll never learn, will you?

    A stock c5 with tuning might, and i stress, MIGHT, hit a high 13 in a eg. Def. won't hit a 13 in a full interior integra. A mid-low 14, yes, but no 13's.

And a stock c5 with tuning touch the H22 in the black coupe. Hell no. Not ever....

just deal with reality. 194whp out of a stock h22a. Running 13.61's @ 105mph on street tires.
