    Default alpine type x rating

I'm thinking about upgrade subs I have audiobahn 15in right now and I'm think about getting an alpine x 12 or 10 will that be even an upgrade? What is everyones opinion on them I haven't heard to many people talking about them. I'm looking for a clean but loud hitting sub. More clean then loud any input on the type x or another sub besides w7. I'm working on aboout 700 as the price range for the sub and box

you can get the 04 and 05 used for around 300. New XXX was somewhere around 500 for the only one I saw for sale.

im looking more of 1 sub. to save room. i have been looking around and stuff but i dont know a whole lot about subs but i do know a little bit its there any place that has a majority of these subs so i can come listen to them. few i had in mind were the jl w6v2, alpine type x, kicker cvx15... i am a daily driver i want something loud but able to hit clean without distortion..

another question what is the big difference in a 15 and a 12 in sub would it be better to go with a 12.. let me know thanks

the difference between the 12 and the 15 is 3" and the 15 will need more airspace. As far as performance, on a meter you MIGHT see a .1db increase but I even doubt that. SQ as long as the box is designed and built correctly then there wont be a difference.

Either of the 3 subs your are looking at will do well for you. If you prefer a mainsteam brand, I would also throw the Diamond D9 in there also. Its an ugly sub, but it performs very well.

now I will sit here and wait on the response that says a 15 is too slow for anything but rap.

sounds good i listen to mostly rap. i was thinking a 15 but if 12 is not that big of a difference i will go with that and save some room. what is a good place to get a box made? for around 100 or so

there's a 12w7 on here for sale and a 13.5 w7...... he told me he will take 480 for the 13.5 w7 and its brand new, that leaves you w/ $220 to get a nice box made... i'd do that if it was me!!!

you could always make it yourself for about $25 in supplies. Especially if you want a sealed box its very easy to make them. The D9 prefers a ported box according to the specs on Diamonds website. Its a bit more complicated to build, and alot more complicated to design.

If anyone here is more familiar with building boxes for them they may be able to tell you the difference in performance between the subs in ported and sealed. The installs I've heard with the D9 were all ported.

Type X are pretty badass, they do around 1000rms and 3000peak dvc, we didn't have them when i worked at best buy we only had the type R but i heard 4 of them at nopi...whenever i get my car audio business going ill probably have them in the next car along with the 6.5 type x components for something to show off for the business

First a type X is definately an upgrade. I would reccomend a 12' W6 though. They hit hard, don't get caught up in power ratings. I know people with type x's and w6's. They are both good for the price. My friend with an audiobahn 15 actually was the one who upgraded to the type x. It's a good $300 investment.

I never knew there was a 12' W6, thats a big ass woofer. Also the W6 was an average woofer at best. W6v2 on the other had is the best product JL makes.

Yeah I meant W6v2. I know someone with two 12 inch v2's powered by JL amps it is ridiculous.

The w6v2 isnt all that loud of a woofer, even for an SQL woofer. What they do have is very good SQ.

though i've owned plenty of cars, i've never added a big audio system(see, subs/amp) to any of them...simply upgraded the stereo and in most cases, the deck/door speakers. with the purchase of my s13, i decided to add a sub. i went with the alpine type R 12" sub($225 new @ best buy), a Q-LOGIC VENTED BOX($120 new @BBuy) with an older model(dont know the number my cousin gave it to me, along with installed everything) rockford-fosgate mono amp.
it sounds great and clean. also it points out the areas of my car that need to be tightened! i hate the rattling shit, but my car does it in the rear, and it's not the license plate.
i know eventually i was thinking of moving with a higher class sub, but that will be after i've gutted the car, dynomat-ed the hell out of it, etc.
