Yeah, they'll hit hard, but it'll be full of distortion. They generally dont handle the amount of power they claim to either. But it's all gonna come down to how much you're willing to spend TransAxle.

I think JL is the best. Even though some peeps say they are a little high priced you get what you pay for with jl quality good sound and lots of output.

yeah i have two MA12D4 series from maauido, which one sub will push 130 on the spl chart at only 800-1000 watts. I just have an argument with a friend this morning on what the best speakers out there where. So like so far people say JL but ihave heard Lighting is some of the strongest shit on the block!

couldnt have said it better myself. ( I work for a rockford, panasonic, DEI distributor...) but i still think JL/Diamond has the best stuff on the market, the newer rockford T1 and T3 speakers are very impressive as well.

Eclipse subs are also really good. They may not hit as hard but they got a real nice clean crisp sound.

The best hands down is JL Audio. the W7 is pound for pund the best sub on the market, I will only ever own JL, the quality and there technology is way ahead of the rest.

Most mainstream subs are more show than go. There are exceptions though, JL W6v2 and W7, Diamond M6's and TDX's, Kicker L7 gets very loud for lower SPL classes. I'm more into the lesser known brands though. Resonant Engineering, Adire, Image Dynamics, Shocker Audio and Digital Designsare some of my favorites. I always thought it was funny to see peoples reactions when I burped my XXX's. No one has ever heard of Resonant Engineering, but everyone has heard of W7's. Well at a show last year my 2 XXX's tuned to 38hz was 2.6 DB louder than a certain shops install with 3 W7 13's and 3 1000/1's.

excuse my rant, and I'm not knocking the W7, in fact its one of my favorite subs.

Oh and as a rule, with no exceptions there is no best sub or best anything in car audio. Every situation is different. SOme products are better than others, but there isnt a single product that does everything the best.

I agree with pretty much everything BanginJimmy said.

SPL: RE MT, Brahma Extremes (cant really get them though...Scottie J special), DD 9515
    SQ: Focal, ID, Arc
    SQL: JL, ID, Arc, Diamond

Thoose are just a few off the top of my head...there are many more...

the funny thing is that JL subs and car audio was designed for SQ and not SPL but there subs are so kick ass. That people see it the other way. just food for thought.

Yeah i am still an MA Audio fan seeing as how they beat out all sound people in 2004 National Sound Competition. But right know with just the MA12D4 x2 i will probably hit around 200+ SPL, but this summer when i go fiberglass i am going to go with there Quaker Series which are dam dam dam dam dam hard to get, have to special order them from MA, they are 12's at 3000 peak watt and 1500rms and i will have two of them!!!!!!

But all this was for the sake of seeing what peoples opinions are, since a friend and i where wanting to see who thought what was best!

I really hope you are kidding here but I will not assume anything

    1. no one has broken 200db
    2. 3kw to a pair of subs is nothing. I know people giving over 6kw to a single 10. SPL only enclosure and DD 9510
    3. what the hell is the national sound competition

alright maybe not 200 but it should be dam close with 1 sub hitting 130 by itself, in a shitty trunk and a shitty built box, know with two of them in a dynamatted trunk with a box built perfectly to the speakers air space specification, so i should get a pretty good amount out of it!

also heres for your third question http://www.nsplcompetition.com/index-10.cfm gives you all the records so far, with each class and events and such. I am still trying to find the website that does it by makes to see which one is the best.

Honestly, 9/10 people cant tell which sub is better because thier enclosure isnt up to par. If I put a crappy sub in a great box, it'll out perform a great sub in a leaky/inadequate box. I have a single 8" that is louder, deaper and more musical than most peoples 2 10"s...why, because enclosure design is VERY important, and I over-build.

damn those are low scores for world records. DB Drag world record is 178.* and combined finals record was 181 I believe.

oh and doubling something will give you an average SPL increase of 3db. So with a well built box, double cone area, double power and deadened truck You will gain somewhere in the area of 8-10 db. Not 70 db.

Bangin is rioght , Double speaker cone size is +3db. Then, double power to all subs, thats 3 more db. If it was only about $, someone would have hit 200 by now. Its about science. The wall at 150 db took years to get by, the one at 180 even longer. 200 is virtually unreachable.
Also, ALOT of local people w/ 150 db cars were NOT measured on a good A weighted meter, so IMO, they dont count, Try it on a good RTA and see a low 140...that what they actually have anyway.

Wasnt the 180 just done at this past years finals? Either way I remember everyone on the car audio forums joking around about how the world was going explode when someone broke 180

Michael, for an indication on how loud this stuff is, Scottie Johnson had 9 Adire Brahma Extremes with 10kw on EACH and hit a 178.x there was a video floating around of one of his runs with that setup and it cracked the frame on his door
