Theoretically the shape of an eclosure should have no affect on the sound. In fact i thought glass would be better becuase it would be a smoother more rounded surface as opposed to the sharp right angles that wood makes. In a sealed enclosure the driver is going to respond to the amount of volume it is placed in and the shape, material, etc. SHOULDNT make a difference. At least this is how i have always thought about it...Quote:

I dont have a lot of knowledge, just a little ive picked up. I could be completely wrong about what i stated above, but i think that is correct.
I would like to just build off that because it would save some time
quality of the install is all that really matters, but as rollin said the smooth contours of a glass box tends to provide smoother airflow. While this doesnt matter nearly as much in a sealed box. It doesnt affect the sound of a ported box. Why do you think that most world class SQ compeditors use fiberglass boxes with no 90 deg angles.
oh, and Sina. I'm not a pro, I just enjoy doing this for fun.
The sub boxes in my Eclipse are fiberglass. I have had a "few" people think the car shounds pretty good...Quote:

and john your sub box is beyond and fiberglass box i have seen and i dont think anyone has the chash or the balls to do what you have done to that eclipse much props bro
everyone has their own opinion
I would actually like to see a high end SPL vehicle that uses fiberglass. Most of the ones I know use more concrete than fiberglass.Quote:

I have a Term-lab meter PM me and we can see about meeting up if you would like. If its a reasonable distance, I only charge about $15 for 30 minutes of use.
If you would prefer to use a shop, xtreme sounds in Woodstock has an old audiocontrol meter. Dont quote me on this, but I believe they charged me about $30 for about 15 or 20 minutes of use.
if im not mistaken this is spl
very nice install, but definately not an SPL set-up. 3 easy ways to tell
1. Diamond subs dont get loud
2. its a sealed enclosure
3. its on a wall facing to the side, not facing the front on the truck.
that would be correct sina...lol!
jimmy whats your location?
I live in Paulding county. Dallas to be exact
aight we'll see wassup...my boy also would like to get his truck tested
where are you at?
lawrenceville
Sina: you know Im just messing with you! Yes, you are definatley trying to help this guy out with ideas, as well as spending his money wisely. Thats great you are helping as much as you can....
I would not necessarily say that wood or fiberglass "sounds" better (or worse) than the other...it all depends on the need and application. Money and time are also a big factor. Sometimes, you just "have" to go with fiberglass.... For example, I used to have a protege5 wagon. I wanted to keep as much of the trunk space as possible...so I need to build most of the sub enclosure out of fiberglass. I put 1 12" woofer in the side panel of the trunk, where only the floor and face were wood, and the rest was fiberglass. This allowed me to get space from the wheel well area, which was otherwise wasted space. My fabricated panel only came out 1/2" further than the factory panel...no real loss of space, and I had a 12" woffer in the car....
John
sounds good...who did it for you?
