    Default Repair on Subwoofer

    Yo,

I've got a JL whose ONLY problem is a severed Tinsel lead to the negative terminal.

It broke at the point where it crosses through the plastic (right under cone).

I can order as many parts as I want online, but I don't want to pay shipping or wait, what do you guys use, and where can I get :

    - Replacement tinsel lead (or substitute wire)
    - Specialized glue for replacing the cone

    Repsssssss!

Glue wise - You need a industrial Strength self leveling adhesive. More that likely you can find this a HD, Lowes or a craft shop. Add pressure to the spot for 24 hours to ensure bonding.

Tinsel Lead - Run to radio shack and grab some Desoldering Braid (http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062744). This can be used a Temp fix, until you can get the correct Tinsel lead for your Sub. Cover the Desoldering braid with shrink wrap for added durability (Be careful)

    ^^ Thx Velo,

Glue - Do you have any specific names? I've heard ppl say loctite 410 or 411c, any opinions?

Tinsel Lead - I have heard about the Desoldering braid, but I thought it's purpose was to remove Solder from sensitive places, like electronics and such. You heat up the braid and once it reaches the right temp it soaks up the solder into the braid to remove it. At that point does it stick to the surface? And you leave it there?

update (for those who use search function) -

    - Bought desoldering braid but ended up just soldering the original wire to itself underneath the cone. Carefully peel back the glue holding it down to expose more wire, OR in order to remove broken tinsel lead and replace with new.

    - Ended up using Loctite special plastic epoxy (3400 lb version). Went on real quick, gave it about 20 hours un touched.

Everything is 100%. Clear signal and sounds just like it used to!
