Hardwiring satellite radio...

I was told a while back about how to hardwire a satellite receiver. I have the FM modulator that, if I remember correctly will be the catalyst for the process. I think all i need to do for power is to cut the wire that goes to the cigarette lighter so that I can run the wires to a power source.

Seems like I remember, also, someone saying something about needing to make sure the receiver is a 12v one or not.

I'm trying to wire this in like this so as not to have the receiver showing to keep the stock look of the car. Later, QD.

I did this to my Element a while back. I dont 100% remember if the cigarette lighter changes the voltage or not. Youd need to take apart the plug that goes in the cigarette lighter. If theres a little circuit board in it its not 12v. If not you can cut the wires and hardwire it that way.

I typically use a add-a-circuit fuse from autozone, they plug into an existing fuse socket but allows you to add a circuit.

just get FEMALES CIG ADAPTER AND WIRES THAT INTO A acc power source so u dont have to take apart the cig adapter power supply

If you have a volt meter you just need to find a 12volt source that is switched power then wire it in. Pull out your radio and check for a source behind it.

Seeing as how there is a circuit board in there, the xm receiver probably does not use 12 volt input. What i have done on a few vehicles now is buy a female cig connector with open wiring. Wire the 12 volt to a switched wire underneath or in the dash and then hidden the wire coming out to the receiver as close to the mount as possible. This way the unit is hardwired but is still utilizing the circuit board and fuse of the original cig lighter. The roady 2 units that my parents have automatically turn on when given power so they turn on and off just like the factory radio on the key.

I remember ordering a kit for my old boss, it had extra parts that allowed for a really clean install. You could look into it on the website of the manufacturer of the receiver, it should have an antenna extension and hard wiring pieces, it makes everything really easy.

You can wire it in just like that. Just nab the red and black wires off the end of the circuit board.
