We do not know which amp you are using so I do not know if this will be a safe wiring for you and your amp but to answer your question, to lower the ohm load wire the coils in parallel, which is wiring the two positives together and the two negatives together.

2 ohms will be just fine. not the best amp in the world but if it plays and you like the way it sounds then stick with it. most amps that say 1000 watts max power like the sony really means that its putting out 500 watts rms. i assume that amp is only stable at 2 ohms. if you want a real nice amp expect to pay 1 dollar per watt unless u find some crazy deal on ebay.

    that statement means absolutely zilch

there are way too many factors to consider unless you have tried both amps to the same subwoofer set-up with the same wiring schematics.

what 1600 watt amp are you currently using?

just because that amp blew that speaker doesn't mean that it is ptting out alot of power... in fact likely quite the opposite. speakers are usually blown from a clipped signal. (dirty power)
