Any advise on what type of system pounds hard for a good decent price?

I like my type-r's. They get loud as hail. Plus I found them for under 100 a piece, and for that price there's no better option. Just make sure you do it right because Alpines are power hungry. And don't buy Rockford if you like sound quality.
Need more information to really tell you anything. Your statement is too general. Do you want sound quality, or spl? What type of vehicle? How much are you looking to spend? What music do you listen to? Just some stuff that would help make a good decision.

Memphis and/or JL FTMFW!
Gotta agree with sleepingtalon on this one.
I had 2 JL 10w3's with a memphis 500 amp in my 95 GST. Sound quality was great, and I listened to all kinds of music. Rap, rock, country, no matter the music they never ceased to amaze me.
I also had RF 12's (P3's I believe) in my 96 eclipse, and they sounded great also. I dont remember what amp I had powering them, but they still sounded nice. Not as good as the JL/Memphis setup, but not bad at all.
Aside from budget and music, it would also be helpful to know the vehicle itself.
What sort of space are you willing to give up (if any)? Willing to cut metal if necessary to achieve your goal? What IS the goal? SQ or SPL? Combo of both? Weighted slightly toward one way or the other?
get a nice box and get 2 10's type r's.... or what ever you like 10/12/15's..... type r's bumps nicely... lol
Good to know someone had good experience with Rockford. Never met anyone that was remotely satisfied with them. I tried out a friends P3's and it didn't work at all for what I listen to. In their defense, however, I listen to mainly metal with lots of double bass/blastbeats and such. Rockfords simply aren't designed for that. And about JL, too damn expensive. Everyone has this idea cooked up in their heads that JL is the god of all audio companies, when that is not the case. If you have a big budget, go with Resonant Engineering or FI subs. They run about 250 a piece, but you get more than what you pay for. Diamond is also a very good company. My best friend has a D6 and it is a BEAST with good clean sound at the same time. If you're on a tight budget, I still say Alpine.
I have 2 Memphis carbon 10's and a PR.500.1 amp in my car and it's all the bass I need, clean too, I listen to a lot of rock and occasionally beat down with rap.
Who knows?
Thank you for all of your advises, well i have a 97 Eclipse gs. Im looking for sound quality and good base. I have always like alpine and JL. I do agree that the JL are a little on the expensive side. Im just trying to get a system that sounds good, beat and a little on the inexpensive side. I have also heard good things about Rockford

Just remember that whatever you choose, do it right. You'll regret it if you skimp on an amp that doesn't power your subs right. Do it right, do it once.
elemental design audio

I have a "some" experience with bass in a 97 Eclipse....
Shameless plug: I have 5 Diamiond D6 10s for sale....
For a while, I ran a single 12 in the car, but have been running a single 10 (for everyday listening) since about 2000.
People have listed some great sub choices IMO.... I can second the nomination for Memphis and a few other brands. The BEST advice I have seen in this thread is to pay attention to the install itself. The box will make a HUGE impact in the overall sound of what ever sub you choose.... Put the right sub in the wrong box, and you will never be happy. Spend the time/effort/money to get a properly designed and built enclosure. It will cost more time/effort/money, but (IMO) be worth it in the long run.
You don't have to get a W7 if you go with JL, just like you don't have to get a Mojo if you go with Memphis. Those subs are built to POUND, and depending on how much bass you want, you can go with a different sub. I like both those brands though, and would recommend either. I agree with Diamond being top notch stuff as well though. I personally use a Memphis M3 in my SC300, with MC500.1 powering my single, 10in sub. I like sealed boxes too, but that's because I listen to lots of metal, and the SQ is just better with the sealed box IMO. Even hip hop/rap sounds good in a sealed box. You just gotta crank it up a bit louder. The bass is very clean though. Just base your selection on what kind of music you listen to, and how much bass you want. On a side note, Memphis Audio has the best warranty service I've ever seen with car audio. It's virtually hassle free. So that's also something you might wanna take into consideration. Hope this helps.
