power inline fuse melting?
So i have a 4G RF amp kit,with the inline 100amp fuse..
i notice that the plastic has like melted around one of the plugs.so i thought it was just were it was.so i moved it..i was doing something else under the hood today and glanced at it,and its gotten even more worse..what could be causing this? and its NOWHERE near heat.its next to my CAI/shock tower..
is it on the batt side or the amp side of the fuse block? make sure its not shorting out somewhere.

its on the battery side going into the fuse..heres a pic.
Things to look at:
is your 4 gauge cable more "jacket" or more "wire"?
is your battery post clean and free of acid/corrosion?
is your connection tight? Meaning the bolt/screw to the battery is not loose?
Maybe that will help...maybe not

and this guy. but make SURE there is no bare wire grounding to the batt. if you got cheap 4 gauge. it is most likely 8g with alot of shielding = bad. get a real 4g or just go all out if you plan on upgrading and run 0g. kicker amp kits ftmfw.
Time to upgrade to 0ga or 2ga welding cable (or wire, welding cable is just a LOT more flexible). Like they said, too much resistance, which causes heat. A heavier wire will carry a higher load with less resistance.

its a Rockford 4g kit.that iv been running for over a year,and now all a sudden with my new set up it does this.

Too much resistance at that point on the line. I bet that it was a poor connection where the fuse meets the terminal end and heat built up there causing plastic to melt. I've seen it many times with power distribution blocks melting like that. Also 100 amp fuse on a 4ga? Is that the only amp you are running on the power wire?
ya thats the only amp im running.bestbuy installed the wires about a year ago.and it was fine.now with this set up it goes in and out.and i just noticed it was melted a few days ago..
The amp has 2 big 60A fuses in it.if that helps
you also may have a dewstrands of the power and ground touching at the amp, slightly shorting the power cable and adding resistance
go with a different style fuse (blade style) and fuse holder and keep it within 18" of the battery. that should do the trick!
I did the same thing to the same amp kit. Make sure the allen screws that hold down the fuse to the terminal are tight (that was my problem). I also went to 60amp glass fuse and haven't had any trouble since.
