Exactly. With a single 4 ohm sub, theres really only two ways to wire it to sound right. Either stereo, ie. straight, or series. If you go series, your amp will see (I'm going on memory here) 2 ohm mono load. Not all amps will handle that.

I would say, bridge the amp and run it straight. I'd guess that'd net you something like 500W X 1. Plenty IMO.
