Default first time building a fiberglass box What you think?

I've been working on this for two days and I guess its looking good. I've build boxes before but never a fiberglass box.

The tub is 5 layers fiberglass weave and 1 layer polyester cloth. all the work was done in my garage with limited tools.

Still have triming, sanding, and paint to do but I'm out of time.

I know it may not be completely right but its my first time.

Heres a pic of it in the truck with the speaker mounted. (sorry its from my phone)

Total cost of all material is $83.00 at this point.

All I still need is paint and maybe more sand paper.

    Thanks for the comments.

I'm going to get my CF hood(trying to sell it, its for a 89/91 4 door civic) from lams in cleveland next sat. and I'm going to show off the box.
I can't wait to see if finished.

Well I just went out to check it out in the light and it doesn't feel vary ridge on the top part so I think I'm going to lay another layer on it. Or just add more resin to it. Then tomarrow I'll test it out and then sand it down.

If the top layer of the box is only fleece soaked with resin...I might suggest 3-4 (or more) layers of chop fiberglass matting over the whole thing. Typically, I will rip (I mean rip, NOT cut it with scissors) into piceces about 5x5 inches or so. Let the pieces overlap as you soak them with resin. Since they are "ripped", but edges are jagged, and will "mesh" together better than if you cut the pieces with scissors or a razor knife.

Also from the 5th picture to the 6th picture: Did you just stretch the cloth over the whole thing, or did you remove the mounting board? Not too sure, but there might be some issues with that....depending on the size of the opehing below the sub.

I streched the fleace over the hole thing.

I'm going to do the fiberglass mat thing you sugested. As soon as I can aford to buy more. It will be two weeks till I get paid again so I guess I have a break from it till then.

I'm thinking the two chambers will be ok with the size of the hole I cut but if not I'm not wored about it. This is only my first box and I'm sure there will be more later.

Not baggin AT ALL....Looks awesome for the first one!!!

    Definately to the mat thing....

Just play it, and see how it sounds...you can always pull the sub out, and cut away from the sub opening....maybe with a dremel, or a drill. The more you can cut away, the better.

However, stick with what you have at first....make the adjustments if you dont like the way it sounds.

    Good job.

Well I trimmed it and installed the speaker today.
And damn it sounds great even with no sound deadning material installed.

(This is a quick photo with my phone and my trunk in really dirty)
I still need to sand it and paint it and experment with sound deadning material.

I've never built fiberglass boxes befor but I have made fiberglass molds and made fiberglass hood scoops. (theres a truck in Cleveland, Ga and one near Cornelia, Ga that are running my hood scoops and I'm making more.)

But I'm injoying makeing this box. I was sanding it but casino royale is on and I'm wathing it.

Looks good, but like Redgst97, my concern is that it seems to effectively be 2 chambers w/ a 10" hole connecting them (like you stated), and one sub. It may sound killer though. There are 1,000,000 ways to do f'glass enclosures, and some guys on here that do it daily can advise you on some tips/tricks. (cant recall their screen names now though, Ben, Chris S, J.Marks, etc etc) .

    thanks

I found out today that the bass caries really good and the cop said he heard me coming befor he saw me.

He said it actual sounded good as I pulled into the store.

I didn't even see him untill he pulled up behind me and I got out.

So I got 1 ticket for the system and 1 because my damn tag is expired opps) didn't even know it untill he said it.

I know the sound ticket is $104 but not sure on the expired tag. Luckally he was cool and let me keep my car instead of towing it.

worse part is I'm compleatly broke and I get paided next week so the car will sit in the garage untill then.

I put my last $10 in on gas last night and I planed on going up into the moutans today but I won't be driving it for a few weeks now.

Thank god the cop was cool and didn't tow my car. That would have really cost me big $$$.

Found out today that the total cost of both tickets is $196.50 and then the price to get the tag updated + late fees. I got paid today and I'm broke for the next two weeks.
