Engine Noise help

I just hooked up a dvd/cd/mp3 player in my car. Everything works fantastic, but i'm getting a ton of engine noise. The unit did not have hook ups for my speakers so I had to run through an amp to get sound to speakers. Its a 250 Watt Crunch amp. When the cars not running all the sound comes out perfectly.

Is there a way to fix this cheaply or free? Maybe run wires a different way or mount my ground elsewhere?

My power wires is comming direct from the battery, the Ground is bolted inside the car under my console. The powers and ground for the stereo and screen are ran from the factory harness.

Are you using RCAs? If so you can get a noise supresser from wal-mart for 12 bucks I think. I would also mount the ground for the amp closer to the amp, somewhere on the chassis. Mine is grounded right behind my rear seat.

My amp is just infront of the center console. My ground wire is only about 3 or 4 inches long.

I'd rather do it with out the amp, but thats not an option. Well i'm sure it is, but not with out a price. I'm doing all this with stuff I already had minus the Unit itself.

You should jsut be able to buy a wiring harness adapter for your car at wal mart for like 6 bucks and hookit up to the factory speaker wires. If you want I could possibly take a look at it this weeke or this weekend(minus sunday cause I am busy that day and I have court on thursday so Im booked that day as well). I dont live far from Kennesaw.

Well, there's no "plugs" so to speak in the rear of the unit. there's only RCA outs. for audio and video. There's really no way that I could do that. I knwo what your talking about. Thats how the CD player was in my Civic, I got everything to plug it in, didnt have to cut and connect anywiring at all. like the one your talking its just one plug that plugs into your car, and then u have to wire it to the radio itself.

The radio should have come with a harness that plugs into the back of the radio then you but the adapter from the store and it plugs into the factory harness but you have to wire the adapter and the radio harness together. I guess I would have to see it to see what you are talking about.

the only plug this comes with, is a 3 wire plug. Hot, Ignition, and Ground. All the sound comes through RCA's. Doesnt have jsut regular speaker wire, or i'd have hooked it up with out an amp

Ohh, I have never installed a unit with a screen so thats probabaly why I havent seen that. Ohh well. Good luck on getting that engine noise out.

I have yet to make it to walmart. I was curious as to what if I were to run the Ground wire directly to my battery? Would that help at all? As it stands right now my motor is grounded directly to the battery, and there's about 8 other points comming off of the battery grounding it to the chassis. Could that possibly have something to do with it? Thanks again, sorry for bein a pain in the dick

what model number is the radio you have. I find it hard to believe that there is a radio that you absolutely cannot run speakers on without having them amped. Even the most high end SQ headunits you dont NEED to amp your speakers.

The DVD player is single din model #P450DVDT
The TV is model # P7M

They're Planet Audio components picked up from Captain_Ron. They're nice, I just need to do away with the engine noise before I move.

so my head unit is normal with all the wires and i have a steady hum coming out of my speakers, i thought it was coming from out side but when i turned my turn signal on it went with the turn signal. sorry to put my problem in your thread but maybe the answer to my problem could help you also.

get better RCAs and/or find a better grounding spot. run your RCAs down the passenger side and your remote wire down the driver side leading to your amp?

The grounding issue with your battery does not sound correct. The engine should be grounded to the chasis as should the battery but in different spots... I'm willing to bet this is your issue...

So your sayign that I should run my engine grounds directly to the chassis and not the battery?

Yea, my amp is under my console in the front of the car. The ground is very short, and bolted under the console as well. My next plan was to run the ground directly to the battery.

I relocated my amp, thinking that might help. Not a chance lol. I moved it from under the console to under my passenger seat. I hate wires, so the main power wire is run under the carpeting, the rest is run through the center console, under the carpet, and back out under the seat. The ground, is still the same length, and now bolted to a seat bracket point.

Still got the same issues.

sounds like cheap RCA's to me. Or just noise from your shitty amp.

I know in my Jimmy, I have grounds from the battery to frame, and block to frame. Nothing from block to battery. I seriously doubt that has anything to do with the noise though.

Yeah I know my amps shitty. It was just something I had, and really had no use for until now. Now I'm beginning to think I have no use for it anyways. lol

sounds like your power is fine
but i get thsi sometimes with my home audio setup
i think its your speaker wires or rca cables
get thick shielded cables if you can... also run your cables as far away from other cables / electronic equipment as possible.
however like mensined it could just be your amp... see if you can try another amp
if another amp makes clear sound... it gotta be cabling..
you can always take your headunit back and say its humming and they will replace it wiht another.
usually no questionsed asked for a swap

I got the head unit off a fellow IA Member. I really dont think its the unit. I'm going to pull the wiring off today, and wire it to my battery charger on trickle.

I've come up with more issues as well. When the car is running, it sounds bad, off it sounds fine. When the cars running, and you turn the heater ON it kills the sound off. When the cars running and you turn the headlights on, it sounds better. I'm going to be doing a battery relocation, when I do, I'm going to run my own hots and grounds, and my ignition wire as well. I'm also calling my brother today he's got a set of fosgate RCA's i had from amp to cross over in my old system that are only about 30" or so long, but super thick. I'm going to ahve him throw them in the mail because he gets free shipping where he works lol
