What is the Best/Easiest way to control a group of people?

To control the information they hear. (mind control through media, etc.)

You beat me to it. Control their thought process to the point where they dont think there is any other option other than what the govt tells them. Demoralize them through fear and then you've got ultimate control.

The dependancy is also true, I worry a lot that people do get too dependent on the govt to help them for long periods of time (I'm all for short term welfare to get people back on their feet, however).

kids eventually find out that their parents are lying about Santa or the Easter Bunny. but they Never(up to a certian age of course) figure out "Why" they do what mom and dad tell them to and why they "can".
