Thread: Question For Libertarians

Where the libertarians stand on principle, I do too. I'm a libertarian and I'm against the minimum wage.

Think about it this way: Employers aren't allowed to hire people who would willingly work for less than minimum wage. Then the employer gets ripped off, won't do as well in business, and is limited to hiring fewer people than if they were paying less than minimum wage (whatever the true market price of the labor would be).

On the flip side, when a certain wage is set as the minimum by the gov't, employers can get lazy and say, "Uncle Sam says this is enough, so this is what I'm going to pay you". When that happens, the employee gets ripped off and doesn't make as much as he/she is worth.

I, as well as all libertarians, am against the idea of preventing two consenting adults from doing as they please with each other. In this case, working for less than minimum wage. Waiters earn less than minimum wage, but they tend to choose to work at restaurants where they get the best tips. If they want to make more money, they get a higher-paying job. The same happens in other industries where people get paid more than minimum wage. Minimum wage is just a tool used by politicians (on both sides of the aisle) to fuel class warfare and pander for votes.
