I need career advice.

All right, I am 20 years old and have not been working for a few months because I have no license so no transportation. I was previously a mechanic because I love cars and such but hated doing it for a living. I have studied welding, automechanics, drafting, construction and computers. All in an effort to find a career. They all bore me though. All I want is a job that I enjoy going to everyday, get paid decent enough to pay rent but not struggle, and has the potential to turn into a good paying career. I don't strive to be rich, just happy. I would actually love to own my own little backyard business or what not, but don't know what I would want to invest in. I have considered starting exterior clean up(pressure washing), mobile stereo install, and a few other random ideas but don't know what would be a good thing to go into that would keep someone occupied and not bored but still enjoy going to work everyday.

I would really love to do stereos for a private shop but don't have the experience to get hired anywhere. I have done my own and friends so I have a good understanding, just not real experience. I get my license back in a couple of weeks but I will be riding a motorcycle, so this limits my choices.

Any advice from fellow IA members? I seem to be having a lot of issues right now. Lol.

Any one know of a stereo shop who would possibly want an apprentice who wants to learn? Somewhere between cartersville and woodstock?

That or I was thinking about going into bartending. I just don't like the idea of working mostly at nights. That is when I like to have my fun.

Any one know of something that you think might suit me?

Lol. I have considered best buy already. I just seem to have issues being in retail stores. I always like the environment of private shops a lot better. As for the weed or meth, that doesn't sound like a good future for my daughter. Thanks for the advice though.

reading this thread, I see the werd HAVIN ISSUES a few times.

1st - you have no job
2nd - Experience is limited
3rd- Stick to what you know until you can get back on your feet.


Sometimes you have to swallow your pride and do what you can to survive.

At this point even bagging groceries woul be good for you.

^harsh but true... no work for a few months, either u have plenty of money or your starting to feel the pressure and need something to get cash flow. get working again, and save money.

my sugestion for kinda neat outdoors and potentialy profitable job is mobile car washing. its extremly big around me, but i only see one guy doing it. Its amazing what people will pay to have thier Ferrari clean lol. Im sure u could make decent money to do that. But of course, you not going to be able to roll up with a rusty trailor and a 95 s10 and expect for them to pay you to wash thier 60,000$ M5 or thier 200,000 Ferrari. The guy i see alot has a really clean Yukon or somthing like that. Very presentable. But to afford that u need money. good luck, its just a sugestion that i think would be kinda cool. Its not for me, but sounds like u need a hands on/ active job. good luck. bite the bullet and work somwhere for a few years. Most 20 yr olds dont work somwhere they love. much less make good money.

sorry to tell ya big homie, but a lot times you just gotta settle. you said you have a daughter. do what's best for your family first. you're only a year older than me, which means you're still young. i hate my job more than anything, but im settling right now. maybe you could find a regular job and go kinda with what Danny said. maybe detail some cars or something on the side and eventually get a business started.

ohhhh soooo true.. a bunch of great posts here but that one is the best advice, if you have a child its not what you WANT to do its what you NEED to do.

Sounds to me that your mind is on the right track. You're definately in search of a suitable career for yourself. this is good because @ 20 years of age, it is common for aspirations to be limited non-exsistant. At least you're mind is on the future now.

In my opinoin, you need to take some time to figure out what direction you want to head in and either pick up a trade and/or start networking to meet people.

Only you can find a suitable career, you kow what's out their and only You know what 's compatible.

Second, I am not working because I don't have a license, not because I can't find a job. I can find a good paying job in a heart beat becaue I know lots of people. Some in the auto industry, some in construction, etc. I was just simply trying to get advice on some different careers. I am sure that there is some stuff that I never would have never even thought of.
