And I'll add this. I think blacks short change themsleves by only having a month. History is all the time.

It seems to me as though the African American Society feels as though "white people" do not view them as socially acceptable I guess you should say and how things were so hard for them to become people with the rest of us. Well back in the day it was the same way for women, but we don't have our own month. I see Black History Month as a way for them to further segregate themselves from the entire population, and still have something else to complain about.

Disclaimer: I don't want to get flamed for this. I treat people the way that I am treated, and I don't think that it is right to judge based on stereotypes. This is just my opinion, I don't want people to think that I am racist.

With the way blacks have already been sterotyped from the past and from our present generation it is hard for blacks to feel socially acceptable. with the same general sterotypes as blacks steal, they love watermelon, or they are all uneducated, ignorant, poor thugs. When so many blacks are trying to break those barriers we still get held back by other closed minded people(even blacks). you see the number of aryan forums that still portray those very stereotypes to the masses. Who knows how many have changed views because of that? Also a lot of that behavior is learned or passed on from family. i have been through that same crap with parents of women i've dated. It does make you feel out of place. While to you it is something that you think we may complain about, in actuality it's just something we are tired of.

wut are you coming at? ban selling watermelons and fried chicken to black people? ...fuck that... laissez faire or wutever... let it heal itself... obviously racism is getting less and less as the world is a melting pot and time...

I'm with other posters... why isolate the month out of the year... don't they even have AA rallies and shit? Obviously it'll take time to end... but what exactly does the month do? Put all the focus on that one group? And whoever posted above... if there was a channel called "White Entertainment Television" ... HOLY SHIT that would be offensive? Right? Even if they had the same sentiment that BET sometimes holds (jokingly) to white ppl... right? Now imagine if that was said on WET... ! !

Fuk your question. I already answered it. I said I personally do not care. I also stated the following since noone bothered to read my first post.

    Cliff notes version
    My first post

I feel that the term African American is a dignified description for black people to use and be proud of.

You only hear about stereotypical black people, because the hard working, productive black people do not incite controversy.

    In response to your question

I don't give a shit about BET it doesn't bother me.

    Now for my own rant

I do give a shit about Black History Month because I enjoy learning and when I was younger it exposed me to some great historical events that I may have otherwise not been exposed to. Honestly I think if Black History Month were to be integrated into the rest of the history curriculum. They would become just a few sentences and passed over quickly without much thought at all.

I can't stand black history month, v-103, BET or anything pro-black. I'm not racist(I'm attracted 2 to many bad ass black, white, latino, asian women to be racist). What if there was a month called White History month, or a radio station that constantly talked about the "white community and white people"
or how bout White Entertainment Television. Then there was that whole thing about trying to make ebonics an official language. Why do blacks want to single them selves out. Come on I thought segregation was over with.

People always say that. lol V103 pro black...wow If ther was a white radio station it would be dumb, b/c there is no black radio station. There are rap - country - rock - pop stations etc. I dotn think there is a Black option for types of radio stations. And BET is and was created to entertain blacks with shows that blacks want to watch. That dont mean theres no white people on BET. You know waht i think soem people are jealous, why not start a petition and write your politician and get a white history month..

Tell me this in white history month what would we celebrate? other than what we already do. Most of the history of this country is white history.

i dont want to be singled out, but the way blacks were treated in the past blacks realizd that noone else was gonna do anything for us. So why not do it for yourself its as simple as that. Idiotsl always complain about black folks not doin nothin for themselves etc, and they are the first ones that want to complain about what we DO have for ourselves.... ..now thats funny.

and i swear if soemoone says "im not racists i have (black/asian/mexican) friends" one more time i will slit my wrists... i think thats the official racists defence line..

I agree. And about a white history month? There aren't too many things the white people have done as a whole that we should be proud of. I want to celebrate the days when whites "owned" black people and destroyed their lives. Don't we already celebrate Columbus Day? That's Christopher Columbus right? Isn't, he the dude that came over with the boats from Europe and started the whole process of colonizing America? Meaning taking the land from the people that were already here. Pushing them back and away and thus forcing them on to reservations that we were nice enough to let them have? Sounds like something to be proud of. Yeah, makes sense. Later, QD.

i have a question. why is it that blk history month rubs some people in here the wrong way? some people belly aching about "oh, why do they need a MONTH to talk about blk history!!?" i just dont get it.

30 days to celebrate or at least learn some shit about blk people that you didnt know is tiny. especially, though i never complain cause i like history, all you have to do is turn to THE HISTORY CHANNEL and spending one day you'll learn everything from ANCIENT ROMANS, to the FRENCH REVOLUTION, to KING LOUIS V, to THE GUCCI FAMILY of italy. and that is one day in 365. and one channel. there are more channels that give glimpses into caucasian history in the world and since you see it so much it doesnt faze you.

I also seem to agree that BHM is a crock of shit. There are ALOT of people of all races that deserve recognition for great inventions and revolutionary ideas throughout history... and dont because their race doesnt have its own month. BHM is an attempt through some seclusionist african american leaders to further seperate themselves from the rest of society.

Without black inventors and idealists.. the US would not be the same today. But the same goes for man others.. including asians, native americans, british, etc..

I also hear the argument about BET.... I hate to say it, but watch BET sometime. BET only furthers to implant the stereotype about the "average" african american today.. that some ppl (IE Cosby) are trying to get away from. I understand that some african americans may feel looked down upon by other races.. but then promote such programming as BET. come on now.

I think that the history involving african americans should be incorporated into the history teachings in schools.. not even as black history but in chronological order along with the history of all other races.

i agree 100%. they could and should be doing so much more with BET, it's a big let down. i mean i like to watch videos as much as the next man...but damn son...is it too much to ask for some educational programming that caters to 18-30 yr olds? well...Viacom owns BET now anyhow...these are the same folks that own VH1 and MTV...

i feel "black american history" is amercan history, plain and simple. this only seperates the races even more, just like BET and AOL's "Black Voices". MLK Jr would is crying in his grave watching the idea he had, being spun into a reversed sort of racism. Instead of coming together as AMERICANS, we are being spoon fed how much we are different.

How many whites in the south are TRULY interested in black history though? I dont want to come off hostile in any way but hell a lot of whites here dont even like being around black people let alone try and learn something about their heritage.

I dont see the problem with a month of recognition personally. I'm sorry but while economically I will say there is a level playing field, socially there is not and I'm not sure if there will ever be. Black history month isnt being forced on anyone, if you don't believe then don't celebrate.. pretty plain in simple.

Didnt read the entire thread cause I know I'd end up irritated so if this has been said I apologize.

I've always been interested in all facets of history. Having a black daughter and a couple of relationships doesn't make me a "know-anything" about black culture, but the fact that I was/am interested gave me my knowledge.

when it's concerning BET. it can't stand that station 'cause it only deals with videos...
i remember when i first realized the station, i thought it would be more like a station that did like documentaries and things like that. not some music station. so i quickly lost interest in ti. then began to almost hate it. it was more entertainment, than education.

oh. and i dont see it as separation. at all. we have different perspective to this thing called human history. and with that all of our histories should be told. i dont see blk history as being a seperatist thing. i honestly see the way it's broadcast and portrayed now as a commercial tool to be used to make money though. with ads getting ready to start bombarding our senses in FEB. i know i'm gonna see MLK'S face slathered across Mcdonalds cups and restaurants all over the country. and we owe that to a family that made his legacy a business product to be sold to whoever offers a good stack of cash.

im mixed both ways but in my opinion i kind of feel both sides of the fence on one hand i believe that reconizing and teaching your cultures past is a important thing however i don't feel it should be a month seperated for it, especially if your talking about trying to bring one country of many cultures together. But in the end it is American history but its also black history. and as far as the BET shit goes, BET for blacks is the same as MTV for whites im my opinion but i think they both suck ass so there.

I am not a racist. Let me make sure everyone understands that first off. I only wanna make people stop and think.
To gain true equality, all the "equalizers" must be dropped. No United Negro college fund, no Blk History month, no special anything....unless all races get the same treatment. The days of that being necessary are over. I KNOW it was needed, I feel it now is a speed bump to the "minorities" REALIZING where they really have come to...or achieved if you will.
The word Minority is misleading. That implies a less than 50% in numbers alone. (whether it be population or income or a mathamatical equation of a combination) Never is a white a minority in this theory. Regardless of the same theory of #s. You realize in many Atlanta suburbs now, Blks are the majority race, Whites are the minority. (Clayton Co, DeKalb Co, Fulton Co, Cobb Co) Now whos the minority?
If the world is to be color-blind, they should be taught, not told.
I am also disgusted in seeing rich minority actors talk about thier plight. They live on $100,000,000 incomes and cant overcome thier own feelings on inadequacy, and they are in the top .01% of the country. Give it a rest already. I have no sympathy for Spike Lee, Kanye West, or any other "activist" that only sees one color. You wanna impress me, Then realize Poor is poor, needy is needy...forget color, and help the closest person in need.

You wanna impress me, Then realize Poor is poor, needy is needy...forget color, and help the closest person in need.

damn very well said however i still think education of a persons past is important, cause i have a 3 year old and already he's asked why is he dark and other kids light. I was speechless for a lil while then i just talked to him about the differences in people's exterior but the similarties in our interiors. i dont think education on who a person or there past is wrong but how it is taught is what will effect the new generation.

By the answers to the poll I feel like ppl who aren't a minority maybe will always think its dumb, and that's the Dumb part. I find that funny but very saddening at the same time. If the shoe was on the other foot I think to poll would have slightly different results. As long a Ppl know that know matter which history month you want to have or not have, if we don't start learning each others history, it won't be any changes in the future. Things will still be F'ed Up

As long as EVERYONE is taught that all men were created equally, and racism isnt about color, its about hatred...and hatred= ignorance....I am happy.

Until about 5 or six years ago I didn't know that african american/black folks made most of the things we use in everyday life that I didn't learn in school like the iron the dryer the mailbox, hotcombs, I could go on but that is what HISTORY is about reguardless of your race. I garunTee you didn't learn that in school.

Anybody who reads my post can think I'm racist. I really don't care. I know I'm not, and my white friends know I'm not. I just have my issues with pro-black stuff.

I don't know anymore white history than black history. To me it's kind of lame to seperate them. I understand the concept, but maybe people should fight to get the history integrated instead of fighting for a black history month. Blacks fought long and hard to not be segregated, yet in a lot of ways they still are. I have 2 black nephews and me and my sister are very aware of the troubles he will face and we do our best to teach him about both sides of his heritage. Ihope that one day we will have all beautiful brown babies..but that's just me. My nephew is the most adorable thing ever. He has beautiful skin and eyes. He's a perfect mix.

QD i think your logic is flawed. Every race has history that they arent proud of.. blacks and whites both included. If it were studied as history and not seperated it would be much better. I can think of plenty "white" history that would be worth celebrating if it had its own time for recognition. (Which i dont think "race based" history needs)

I don't think it is. Where do you think it is flawed? Because I see no need to make a big deal over blacks having their own stuff cuz it doesn't affect me? Should I be another white person that is upset because V-103 and BET exists? To me, that is where logic is flawed. Should I be proud that our ancestors did what they did to black folks? I'm not por-black or pro-white. I am pro-me and my family. If it doesn't affect us, I don't see the big deal in worrying about it. Later, QD.

I agree with you completely as far as that goes! It personally doesnt upset me that there is a black history month. I do however think its un-necessary. I dont care about v-103 or BET... i just skip over them along with mtv and most other garbage on TV and radio. I think that by seperating 1 race and giving them a month it causes inequality for everyone

I do understand that reasoning. Makes sense. But it wouldn't cause inequality if people wouldn't bitch about it...not saying you do/are. Just in general. Just let it be. If whites did it, then the blacks shouldn't say anything. Later, QD.
