John Doe Subpoena for illegal downloading.
i just got a certified letter in the mail from my ISP stating the courts are requesting information about me. Apparently i was illegally downloading music, Arista llc or something like that VS. John Doe. Has anybody else got one? or know of anyone who has got one? what was their outcome? Im wondering what my next step should be. Im going to see an attorney today. and if anyone has an attorney they can recommend. any help is appreciated.

not really there is no law that says you have to have a security password on your network.
But you should delete all files from your computer and not use public sites :P

CALL YOUR ISP BACK RIGHT NOW AND MAKE THEM DELAY COMPLIANCE BEFORE THEY GIVE YOUR INFO AWAY. TELL THEM NOT TO GIVE YOUR INFORMATION AWAY UNLESS YOU HAVE AN ATTORNEY REPRESENTING YOU. DO THIS NOW BECAUSE YOU HAVE A DEADLINE!!!
The attorney will file a motion to quash to try and have the subpoena thrown out
Record labels will try to sue a huge block of IP addresses in order to catch big fish in the pirating world. But you have a right to remain unconnected to your IP address under the first amendment.

Sounds like BS to me unless they an confirm your name,address,SSN etc then they have nothing on you. Lots of scam operations will claim stuff like this to get your private info or to pressure you into a payment for money.
In for updates, seems interesting.
Apparently there is a new law being passed that requires all ISP's to surrender any and all IP's of people suspected of downloading illegal copyrighted material.
My suggestion is remove ANY and all traces of file sharing programs and content that may be considered 'illegal.'

Spoke to a few lawyers and all advised me to remain silence. Its a scare tactics that copyright trolls are using to try and get settlements from folks.
