I am looking into becoming a firefighter. I know some on here are already in the career, so I was wondering if you could direct me on any open positions and/or advice on the hiring process. Thanks for your input.
I have seen requirements that within 6 months you have to get the certification while training for the job. I assume it would be better to get certified first. How would I go about doing that and where would I go? I know you dont live far from me so I may be able to go to the same place that you did.
I have a friend that just got hired in Rockdale County. He simply applied and went through the hiring process quickly with no experience. Only job he has ever had was working at the track like I do and soccer reffing. I have industrial plumbing, corner marshal(racetrack), and customer service/retail experience.
I went to a shit hole school in Smyrna and I don't recommend it to anyone. Best bet is to go to a tech school. Dekalb Tech would probably be your best bet. It would take a little longer to get to the FD but it will make the process easier. Also, already having your EMT will provide job security in the event you don't get on with the FD. I am continuing my schooling at Southern Crescent Tech in Griffin.
Good luck. I'm almost done with my EMT, have FF1 and FF2 as well as 7 years volunteer experience and have had no luck. So many areas are in a hiring freeze, and the ones that don't have so many people apply it's hard to get on anywhere.
I'm a macon/Bibb county firefighter we have our own in house training facility and also go to forsyth for a little training as well if I remember correctly training is about 4 to 5 months then you have to pass your state certification test. I love the job, I love helping ppl. Also we only work 10th days a month. It takes hardworking and dedication.

I'm trying to get on in atl so I can get paid more since I'm a pump operator/ driver. We don't get paid extra for driving which sucks
Also if your interested go down to the fire administration and start asking question about what does it takes show that you have Passion for the job and they should be able to direct you in the application process usually u have to go thru human resources to apply.
Sometimes its about politics meaning you have to show your face to the big wigs like lieutenants captains and district chiefs
I hope you don't have a weak stomach because you will see some disturbing shit that has made me a borderline alcoholic lol

You could just join something like the Air Force or Air Guard. If you get the desired job, they will send you to one of the best fire fighter schools in the nation which I belive is in San Angelo, Tx. Granted, its a big commitment but its just an idea.
