Your post is naive and pointless. It's smart to ask people you know for jobs or if they heard of one's, wtf are you talking about. I have been to job fairs and what not and usually its hundred of people dressed in nice suits that have a folder of resumes at hand. You go in try to impress show a resume and you get the luck of the draw. If you know people and they have openings and your good at the job it will get you to work faster than what your stating.

I may have been unnecessarily sharp with my words but my point still stands. I dont believe shunning any means of looking for a job is wise or intelligent. Simply prioritize your time for what is most efficient with your search. I don't think paying 35$ and sacrificing 3 hours on a saturday to go to a job fair is all that big in the scheme of things especially considering the opportunity to meet people from companies that will get you into a career rather than a job.
