Different story.. in this one it may have been a MARROW TRANSPLANT that cured his aids

"Dr. Gero Huetter said his 42-year-old patient, an American living in Berlin who was not identified, had been infected with the AIDS virus for more than a decade. But 20 months after undergoing a transplant of genetically selected bone marrow, he no longer shows signs of carrying the virus."

The bone marrow donor had a very rare immunity to Aids. Seeing as there is apparently a 30% mortality rate in having a marrow transplant, it isn't really going to become a widespread AIDS treatment, and also it is not going to be wonderfully easy to find donors with the immunity in the first place, but it opens up some new avenues of research at least.
