    Default Russia is losing it!

I did a quick search, and it didn't seem like anyone posted this yet...now that the U.S. has signed that missle deal with Poland, Russia is threatening to aim nukes at them! I happened to catch Condoleezza Rice's response on the news this afternoon...she basically laughed and told Russia that would be a BIG mistake. It's gettin' serious son!

we dont even need a missile sheild. If Al Qadea can shut down the United States using 8 guys and box cutters, then im pretty sure a developed 'rogue nation' can attack us in very much the same way to a higher degree. ICBMs screaming across the sky is so old now, everyone knows this. 2 black guys brought Washington DC to its knees for a month with just a sniper rifle and an old car. I wonder what a 'rogue nation' can do with that concept. Missiles are so old fashioned. If anything, missiles could have stealth technology, then that would be a better weapon.

About the bases in Poland, I am disgusted. This is all the Bush administration's fault. They broke the promise that NATO will not expand eastward (yes it was promised a while back). Guess what? Russia offered NATO the use of one of their early warning systems in Azerbaijan and the USA rejected it, saying it uses different technology that the ones we have planned, makes you think. I am of Polish decent and knowing that the USA has yet again interfered with another sovereign nation's (my nation!) buisness just makes me sick.

A vast majority of Czechs and Poles oppose this. It is merely the US bribing the governments to accept this. Only a few members of the Polish government want this, a huge majority of the citizens reject it, and I agree with them. It will only make more problems. Russophobes such as John McCain will only make this problem even worse.

i don't see why people get all pissed off about a defense system they might never have to use.

We use this system 3 - 4 times a month, sometimes more. The system is more than launching nukes... I worked at NORAD/NORTHCOM/AFSPC (Air Force Space Command) in Cheyenne Mountain for years. You would be surprised how many times we scramble.

if you build it you will need it. if you dont build it, you wont need it.
in the 60s we had missile bases in Turkey, then the soviets put missiles in cuba. its madness. if we never put missiles in turkey, would we have had the missile crisis in the first place? The united states is so foolish, instead of making friends we like to make enemies. we are crips looking for bloods, we dont like them why? because some guy says so and thats it.

the irony of it all....a lot of us disagree with some of the actions of our government...and yet, we still benefit from it. today's world is a direct result of "conquest & conquer," and those ideas will never die. let's say that at the end of the Iraq war, our fuel prices drop down to like $.50 per gallon...who wouldn't appreciate such a "spoil of war?" conquering the Native Americans, slavery, etc. are all things that our country is guilty of, and yet....as citizens, we're all reaping the benefits. if the U.S. uses one of these "missle defense units" to bomb and take over some country tomorrow, but shoots down 8 Iranian missles headed for the CDC here in Atlanta 2 days later, who wouldn't say "damn...i'm kinda glad that was there?"

in a perfect world, we'd all be able to sit down, hold hands, and sing koom-by-ya, and every man/woman/and child (no matter what country) would be considered equal. MAN is responsible for the rise and fall of man...bottom line.

There is a difference in a war with a purpose. than a war over someone elses problem. If this does evolve into a russia and USA issue.... what do we have to gain?

Spektrwing mentioned how the "old" methods of war seem to be obsolete...

I vehemently disagree - the way wars have been fought will never change, whether it's by invasion, or some type of small incursion behind the lines. Small guerrilla units have been used in every single conflict since the beginning of time (with great success) to wreak havoc on the enemies infrastructure. The only reason these terrorist attacks have success at all is because the world as a whole is better connected than it was even in the 80s.

Waging war has not changed, it has expanded into every single aspect. Russia has further proved this concept by their full frontal assault on a sovereign nation and then threatening to cut off the West's energy supply in retaliation for the missile defense system.

It's not so much as to what we have to GAIN, but as to what we stand to lose. Russia is one of our suppliers of natural gas and oil... you think gas prices are high now... just wait.

This entire conflict over there should be reinforcing the dire need for our country to be energy independent (which it could be in several years).

uh... you need to do some major research before you say statements like that. First off, Georgia deliberately started the war (to eliminate the problem of south ossetia so they could have a better chance to join NATO). And with the killing of hundreds of Russian citizens by Georgia, Russia came in to end it. So Georgia started it and Russia ended it, its a situation where it looks bad to be on either side of the conflict. Georgia was bad and Russia was bad. It was not some random act.

Second it was not directly in retaliation against the missile system. The missile system deal was signed after the war started.

Also, Iran just launched its own domestically built sattelite into space, good for them! they want to develope their own nuclear power? good for them! they are being self sufficent. And doing what only a few countries have done by selves. [sarcasam]Cause if its not built in the USA, its probably built for evil, right?[/sarcasam]

who is to say that this isnt a ploy from our own government to drive prices up again? Think about it. We invade Iraq and what did we get? $2.00+ raise in fuel prices (per gallon of gasoline) at the least. Now the price is coming back down slowly. Guess what? Another conflict that will affect the price of fuel again. See a pattern?

I like big brother, but at the same time I dont. Way too many personal problems that seep their way into policy making and military decisions. I will still vote for McCain tho.

McCain is the worst russophobe of them all. He will make relations with Russia so cold, same with Iran. He is a bulldog that barks for no reason, then he gets all the other dogs excited.

First - their invasion worked didn't it? It stopped Georgia from killing their citizens, and showed that full face attacks are still effective. I believe you take me for a typical uniformed kid on IA....

no... just countries that have a stated goal of ending other countries existence on the face of the planet and have a pretty good track record for their total disdain for Western civilization.

I suppose you also have nothing against the Chinese and North Korean government as well?

North Korea is a very bad government. But truth is the Iranian president does not have much control over military action. And Iran not liking the USA? Well they have a very very very good reason for it. Its not exactly hate, but more of mistrust. You would be very skeptical of the USA too if they did to you what they did to Iran over the last 60 years. One of the worst die-hard dictators of Iran was installed by the CIA.

Bush and his administration are so ****ing dumb... i think he is trying to get us in war w/ every part of the world. Lets think Russia is totally going to be fine w/ the US putting missile defense system on their border ummm don't think so. Bush will go down as one of the worst presidents in history w/o a doubt. I can not wait for my children to read about him in history books and learn what a toolbag he has been and what little he as provided for this country.

This is all more the reason for a democrat in office.

that's the point i was trying to make (i was kinda playing devil's advocate).^^

we all know that it's a "survival of the fittest" type of world. personally, i feel like Russia has a right to feel "threatened" by the missle situation, I just don't think they're ready to get into nuclear warfare with the U.S...it's not that serious.

lol, i'm glad someone finally brought the election up. there are definitely times where we need presidents like Bush/Mccain/etc...i just don't think now is the time. the Bush administration has stroked the "American Ego" long enough, it's time to relax and get things right on the home-front. Mccain's response to the Russia-Georgia situation let me know right then, that he's more than willing to flex the military muscles. i'm hoping Obama will get into office, call the president of Georgia, convince him to give up S.O., in return for some hardcore U.S. military technology. then have him call Russia and tell its president, "alright, we convinced them to give you the land you want...now we're going to put the missle defense system in Poland, and you chill out." after that, maybe he can help get me some health insurance, since my slack a$$ job can't offer me anything financially feasible.

OH! i almost forget...he should text the russian prez, and end it with smiley faces...b/tches love smiley faces.

I hope you're kidding. We have soooooo many people lined up to be front line infantry for our country's military that we have a waiting list. I know because my friend is in the army. The only reason why we are pulling out of afghanistan is because everyone here is saying how we shouldn't be there and how we need to bring our troops home.

LAWL!!! yeah, that's what we need..."operation human shield." you know how our military is though, everything is named after a bird...so it'd be more like "operation dark hawk" or "operation black pigeon." you're lucky though, you'd get to be apart of the 2nd line of defense..."operation brown robin."

Cant wait to meet the bird named "Desert Storm" or "Market Garden".... i wonder if the bird "Shock and Awe" is cute.

No, everything is not named after a bird, i have no idea why you think that.

hey hey hey, easy there fella. it was a joke...IN RESPONSE to a joke. if you'd prefer for me to post with your feelings in consideration, just ask me (contrary to popular belief...i do have a "softer" side).

by the way...you got me...everything isn't named after a bird, sh!t just sounded funny, so i typed it. and "shock and awe" does not sound like a cute bird...sounds like a COOL A$$ BIRD!

real talk though, i made this thread for a reason (hence the title). the situation is f/cked up, and i do hope things don't escalate, especially knowing that you have family there. i'd hate to see this turn into a war, and 2 months later you make a thread or even a sig saying that you lost someone important...you dig? you and your family do have my prayers (whether you believe it or not). when the world gets tough, there's not a lot of things you can do. trying to get deeper in my faith and comic relief tends to be the best medicine for me...and i'm sure randomguy can co-sign with me on that.

EDIT: i actually wiki-researched military operations...although they're not all named after birds...in ALMOST every war, there was atleast ONE operation named after an animal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ary_operations

well it didnt sound like a joke, it just sounded like you were really really stupid. if you are going to make a joke, make sure it reads as such.

"easy there fella"??? i was correcting your stupidness, not winding up for a punch to your face.

lol, you don't understand a joke and i'm the stupid one? NO, the problem is you're just too sensitive. did your father bake a lot? he must've made sure he gave your mom that extra PUMP to ensure that you had those "soft as a muffin" emotions. this is the 2nd thread of mine that you have decided to fill with your ignorance...keep it up junior.

    i seriously dont understand you.

what you said before in no way sounded like you were making a joke.

it was almost as lame as if you said "i have 2 cats named tom and jerry, LAWL!"

so please stop PMing trying to defend your 'joke' thinking somehow what youve said in other posts have offended me.

you're right, i did PM you because your response made it seem like i offended you in some sort of way (referring to a bird as "shock and awe"). the only thing worse than seeing a grown man cry, is knowing he's crying on a keyboard. perhaps i should break the joke down for you...are you ready?

    1. Randomguy posted a link to a south park clip, where the military was sending in "the darkies" in front of the white military people. this was obviously an INSIDE joke...

    2. I laughed...WHILE LAUGHING i made a reference to how the military has military operations named after animals...specifically BIRDS. THE PUNCHLINE = if there were a military operation involving "darkies" (like on south park), it would be named after the "darkies" and a bird.

QUIZ: Does the military have a real "operation darkies?"
ANSWER: No, south park played on the EXTREME of racial prejudices made a joke.
RELEVANCE: i made a joke playing on the EXTREME end of military operation names.

i can't break it down any further for you bro. i understand literacy may not be your strong point...unfortunately, the only 8 year old i can think of to translate this for you is probably sleep (it's past his bedtime). i really want to help you get over this, but my patience is wearing thin.

BY THE WAY...i did use to have a white cat named onyx...i found her name funny/cool.

you cant reference your punchline to something that has never existed, thats why its a bad joke.

i should neg rep you for trying to pass that off as a joke and then talk as if im crying on a keyboard.

but this has gone on long enough. back to discussion.
