Extra Income: Any Ideas???

So, to cut to the chase -- I want some extra income, aside from my salaried job. I work the normal 40hr work week with some flex in the 7-5 range (7-4, 8-5, etc....). The position travels sometimes when I have to go on location for an analysis, or implementation.

I want some extra income. Obviously, a second job is the easy answer, but I like the idea of working from home, lol.

Does anyone on the board know of any products that are not readily available in the United States.

Please list whatever comes to mind.

I've been reading blogs about hosting affiliate websites for ebay, and people seem to make money with little effort and a $200 startup fee.

Like I said, getting a second job is the surefire option. I really didn't want to trade more of my time for $$, but thats how it works, lol.

We have, but the location of this property is not worth it for me. It is a low income area that would benefit me more on the front end with the lump sum of money from the sale.

The tenants pay the first 3 months rent fine, and then begin to be late, and eventually stop paying. The property does not qualify for Section 8 either. This cycle has been going on for a while now. At this point it’s a hassle. I am taking the money and erasing all my consumers debt, then investing the remainder

I about 2 years, after I buy my first home, I will leverage myself to purchase rental properties again. The housing market will suck for another 5-10 years anyway, lol.

that kind of job is straight gravy. i mean, you do a little bit of work....but its not hard....in any way shape or form is it hard. i did it for a year before finding a new job.

its probably the best way to go. spend most of your time organizing things on a shelf and talking to people. and you can just lollygag around while doing it.

Depends on the location really on how long it will take to "recover".

In some places it wasn't really a housing market sucking it was values returning to where they would have naturally been and not the outrageous growth they gain in the early 2000's.

In others like Cali and Jersey they dropped like rocks because they were gaining HUGE values every year...

Exactly, but in GA, there is land being developed like crazy. Sure Atlanta, and the metro area are growing, but not as fast as the properties being built.

In 3 years you will be able to pick and choose even more where/how much to buy.

I had a guy begging for ways to make money just last week. I told him that if he followed me to Nicholson to give me a ride back I'd give him $50 plus gas. I know it isn't a fortune but $50 an hour ain't too shabby.

Oh he told me that he had just woke up (11:30 am) and didn't feel like going anywhere. He then called me again Saturday and asked if he could borrow $20.

I was in a predicament that did not allow me to finish high school and had no furthering education. I found several trades including plumbing, pest control, low voltage, horticulture, Etc. Now I do just fine and have several license for different trades.

Let me clarify, I have a career. I am a Regional Logistics Analyst for a large corporation. I am not necessarily looking for "work". I want 2nd income that would not conflict with my job. I travel often, and would need something either home-based, or SUPER flexible. The 2nd income would be used soley to pay of my remaining consumer debt, save for a house, and invest.

And, I apologize for using the wrong terminology. There are more houses than able buyers. There are still subdivisons, townhome communities, and random houses being built everyday! Just look downtown, then pick a highway and any exit; all the land that can possibly be developed is being developed.

I hope I made better sense.

I am a Bugman by trade but I go out quite often to do plumbing repairs and even weed control. With the additional trades I make probably 20k a year very part time.

I just think it would be a better planning thing if you learned an additional trade instead of stocking shelves or standing at a window taking food orders.

For anyone with additional income now I would highly suggest buying a few houses and sitting on them. Heck even land is going fairly reasonable right now but ya gotta have money to spend money.

I could very easily make $500 a weekend doing weed control. I refer it out along with the mosquito control. Between the 2 I could hire someone to do it and still clear $700 a weekend.

That may be something worth looking into.

If you have a bit of side money to play with look up various banks and see what they offer in interest for short term investments. For 24 hours they will pay way less then 1% but still you are earning money for just moving your money there for a day. There are all different kinds with different time period and interest rates you just have to investigate. I did this to save my bosses business. I started with $10,000 and made it grow significantly over 8 months. Just an idea. At least you could do it from home

To go along with this and not READING. Try Ohio... our market is down so low u can buy most anything u want. Because in the long run, people will return when things are moving back up (in 5-10yrs) Only cuz I live here is probably why I mentioned it but still.

Good point. All my "extra" money is going into a mutal fund right now. Its doing pretty good, but if I can generate more income, I am going to start layering CD' at Charles Schwab.......
