    Default Stem Cell Research

One of the issues that the presidential candidates have commented on is stem cell research. Huckabee, Paul, and drop out Romney opposes it while McCain ,Clinton, and Obama supports federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. What is your take on it?

A friend of mine got in a car wreck quite a while back. He was thrown from the car and he landed on his butt with his legs straight out in front of him. He fractured a few vertebras (sp) and compressed his spinal column. This caused him to be paralized from the waist down. He was one of the first people that got the stem cell treatment after the experimental stages were done. Because of this surgury, he can now walk around and even jog. He wont be able to lift heavy objects or play sports or anything like that, but he is able to live a life outside of a wheelchair and can be independent. I am all about stem cell research.

If it can cure diseases and certain ailments I am all for it, I think the sacrifice would be well worth it to save possibly millions and millions of people.

even though it could cure diseases, there are down sides to everything. After seeing the side effects I could make up my mind.

I am down for stem cell research, as I don't believe nothing is harmed when doing this research. I rather ppl do this research, then doing horrible experiments on animals.

can i ask why? i mean im not calling you out or anything im just curious. one other solution that i know of is when a baby is born they take the fluid from the embilical (sp?) cord and save it. Another one is that they now can take cells from skin cells. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me.

Paul isn't necessarily against stem cell research. He believes the decision should be upto the individual states and citizens on whether to do it. Doesn't really matter though since he's got no chance of winning.

-Mentally Retarded accidental pregnancy(taken advantage of)
-The mother will die if she gives birth(super rare)

Yes there is adoption for the rape victims but oh well thats my opinion.

Same here but I don't know if I agree that the Feds should fund it. Federal research is very slow, costly, and lacks effetiveness. If the private sector did the research, I believe more could be accomplished. Maybe the government should just offer special incentives(tax breaks) for private companies to do the research instead of provding full funding.

I support it. If it can cure diseases and certain ailments, then why not? There is always the chance of it falling into the wrong hands though, but oh well.
