I sold cars for a while [about 19 months], and I loved it honestly. I'm personally thinking about going back to it, simply because there is SO much shit involved with the outside sales I'm doing now. How well you do, well it depends on your personality more than anything else. Unfortunately, there are some with the same attitude as dipshit up here, but most people will know if you're being up front with them. I'd also take a good hard look at the pay scale, and an HONEST evaluation of how many units the dealership moves vs. the # of sales people. A lot of dealers are going to a base+commission plan these days, but the catch is, you make LESS commission. There are still a lot of them, however that will do straight commission with a draw if you don't sell, the upsides to this are usually much higher commissions[anywhere from 20-40% of gross], and they usually pay something on the back end of the deal [usually 2-5%], the downside however, is that if you get too far in the hole, they give you the axe. Competition is BIG in the business. Not only between dealerships and brands, but between salespeople as well, and a lot of the older cats won't think twice about skating a customer off of a noob.

All that being said, it really is a fin job if you're a people person, there's the potential for GREAT money [some of the older guys that have been doing it 15+yrs are knocking down ~90-100k a year].

Again, the main thing is being upfront with the customer, knowing how to read them and how much pressure to buy you can apply to them without sending them running down the street to someone else. Usually, when you're starting out, the sales managers won't hesitate to help you out, if you need help getting a customer to sit down, and are ALWAYS willing to help when closing a deal.

Product knowlege is key as well, make sure you know your stuff, as well as your competitors' stuff, and know how to slant the figures to your advantage or make them seem unimportant if you can't. A great example of that is the Hyundai vs BMW SUV commercials talking about cupholders, then showing the difference in price.

Well, hope that helps, if you have any more questions feel free to ask and I'll be more than glad to help.

Trust me, I'm far from intimidated by you. Generalized statements like these show a major lack of experience in dealing with the matter at hand. Not saying there aren't still some out there, but those days are pretty much done, there are way too many regulations and too much government involvement in the shit now. Now, if you wanna continue to try and play hardass with me, PM me and we can do what we gotta do, since I disrespect your famiry.
