    Default Any insurance agents?

I have a interview with a insurance agency for this position. Ive been reading about the job, and trying to figure out if insurance agent jobs are commission based? The company is United American Insurance, anyone worked for them before or dealt with them?

Most insurance agents are on commission only. Haven't heard of that company, though. Just watch out that they don't make you pay your own expenses (rent, supplies, education, etc.)
What if there is no tomorrow? There wasn't one today.

Yup that was me!! When i worked there i was straight salary based, then i moved to another NAtionwide office and got Salary plus commission!

Sometimes you ahve to write so many policies then after that you get commission.

But yea i rememeber you, you wanted insurance so you could drive to Nopi nationals!!!

    SALARY + COMMISION IS TYPICAL

SOME WILL LET YOU IN ON A PERCENTAGE OF COMMISSION, WHILE OTHERS WILL LET YOU START YOUR OWN BOOK OF BUSINESS, YOU LEAVE, YOU KEEP THE CLIENTS.. ALL DEPENDS ON THE COMPANY BRO

I'm an independent agent. My last job was salary + commission + benefits. Pretty good arrangement. Anyway, don't go on straight commissions if you can help it. If you do, I'd say to take a look at what all it entails.... generating your own leads is very tough stuff, unless you know someone at a dealership or something.

the market is SOOOO competitive right now for P&C... well, atleast where I was that is (Covington Hwy)...

I'm wanting to try to, perhaps, get a job at another agency at some point... some place less ghetto if at all possible, any of you guys have experiences in nicer areas?

oh yea, and as an auto/home Agent - EFT is your best friend! don't let anyone else fool you!

Easy as hell. Most will want you too have your P&C license.Which is easy to get take a 40 hour class and pass a state exam. And then apply for your license.
You must have a agent sponsor you to do that.
Then after that it goes by expirence!!!

Insurance is really really easy as long as you stay on top of the laws and so forth. And know what the guidelines are, becasue you can write a policy and have a UNderwriter reject it and cancel the policy.

So you have to just know the guidelines of writing new business.

NAW MAN PEOPLE COME IN TO BUY INSURANCE, YOU WRITE THEIR INFO UP IN THE COMPUTER, SUBMIT IT TO A INSURANCE COMPANY (WHEN YOU QUOTE SOMEONE YOU USUALLY HAVE A GOOD CHOICE OF COMPANIES) AND AN UNDERWRITER TAKES CARE OF THE REST.. APPROVE IT, CANCEL IT, ASK FOR ADDITIONAL INFO, ETC.. LIKE B18 SAID IT WOULD BE GOOD TO GET A P&C LICENSE, IF YOU ARE WITH A DENCENT AGENCY THEY WILL USUALLY PAY FOR YOUR CLASSES, ITS A 1 WEEK COURSE AND EASY TEST.

What do you mean mark up? We cant mark the prices up at all.
The insurance companies pay us once a month!!

Say we write a policy for 1000.00 we get 13% of that every 6 months!!!

nah i mean like if i pay (well use roung numbers) $150 a month on insurance, how much of that "keeps you legal" in the system and how much is mark up?

I guess a better phrase is what does it cost the insurance company to actually legalize the vehicle. is it a flat fee or does it vary?

    im confusing myself

it all comes to us homey, "US" being the insurance company! there is no flat fee, you are paying to transfer the risk of an accident to us, nothing else. We send a record to the state w/ every new policy/renewal/endorsement and that shows them your policy is active, but there is no "fee" or charge.. like homeboy said there is a percentage each agency gets per month, and thats it

I guess a better phrase is what does it cost the insurance company to actually legalize the vehicle. is it a flat fee or does it vary?

    im confusing myself

Too be legal in the state of georgia you must show insurance, the insurance company dont pay the state anything. So there is no mark up.

Insurance really protects you and the other drivers and helps the courts keep lawsuits out of there system.

Insurance is too make a person whole again after a accident, thats why its required, its not required so the state makes money!!
