Well, I guess it was the gas. The car started right up at the meet. It also idling alot better. It was around 550rpms. Now its where I set it a month ago for 650rpms. But anywayz it was alot of fun hanging with the boys again.

Ok, right now I have a 1984 Oldsmobile 307 in the Camaro. I rebuilt it about 5 years ago. Crank was machined, all new bearings, rings, timing chain, installed a Comp Cam 268, new lifter, the heads were reconditioned. All done be my father and me except the machining on the crank. On the outside I have complete Msd ingition, Edelbrock intake manifold and Holley 670cfm carb, no A/c, no emissions. All this stuff that would make you think WOW. She should run. And it does runs like a champ. But the heads I have on are pretty restrictive but that are the best heads I can run. Looks like I might have 200ish hp and 275ft lbs of torque. I would hope I would have more. I realy don't know. And in stock form it has 150hp and 250 ft lbs of torque
Now I have a guy in Alabama who is goin to trade me my 307 (5.0) long block, But his 455 (7.5L) complete block and blown tranny. He doesn't like how it is running and he isn't very mechanicly inclined. So it is just easier to swap for something that runs good. Now I am picking it up next weekend.
Heard is where I would like some input. When I have this 455 at my house. I will have two great engines that new some attention. I have Olds 403 (6.6L) on the engine stand and plus the new 455 (7.5L). The plan was to stick the 455 in the camaro has is. But it is a smog motor year. So it has 190hp 350ft lbs torque to 250 hp 375 ft lbs of torque depending on the year in the mid 70's. ( got to love a big blocks torque especially max torque is around 2400 rpms) Now the 403 in stock form has 180hp and 300 ft lbs of torque. (this is a small block, it is the largest bore production engine EVER made. And it weighs around 70lbs less the the 455) but the 403 has to be rebuilt. It is half way apart. By the way this is a 1978 year also a smog engine. It is the replacement engine for the 455.
So here is the ticket. Every bolt on part I have for the 307 will fit the 403. (small block to small block) And I have a set of header at work that I would install. Im buying a set of heads from a guy online for it now ( which give me the really good flowing heads and raise my CR). That will raise my Compression ratio from 8.0:1 to 9.5:1 combined with a good cam and all the bolt on I should have the engine where it would put out around 300 hp at least.
The 455 has very restriction smog heads, which I could have so better heads for it too. But on it too raise the compression ratio you have to buy high compression pistons. So to build this engine to produce some good number will cost around $800 dollars more then the 403. But I would get about 400 horsepower and 500 ft lbs of torque which is insane/untouchable. I would start breaking thing.
So both engine would need work to produce some good numbers. But 455 I could just drop right in the place of the 307 and drive it. BUT a chance I will lose performance if it was the worst year. And I would have to start fresh on bolt on part since 90% of the part wont interchange small block to big block. Now I have two cars a Camaro and a Cutlass. Both need a engine. Both currently runs. I got to have the camaro running fairly quickly. Becuz I enjoy driving it more becuz it is faster and sporter suspension. Which is why I wasn't leaning to the 455 so much since it is in runable state. But for about $800ish bucks I could have the 403 going and produce the some real numbers. But the 455 is a stonger engine. SO it would complete my Cutlass drag car idea. And have my camaro has a good street car.
What would yall would. 1st Just stick the 455 in the camaro and drive it then I get done with the 403. 2nd put the 455 in the camaro and leave it till I can rebuild it and rebuild it and stick it back in. 3rd put the 455 in the cutlass and make it a drag engine someday. And build the 403 and stick it in the camaro. Or anyother idea. I heavily leaning to idea number 1. But it would probably cost a few hundred to get the 455 running good. And that could go to the 403 build. Which make me say number 3 is the best choice.

The HO 307 had 180hp and 260ish ft lbs of torque with only a different cam installed. Im not sure on the bore to stroke ratio of the 305. But both are really just good daily driver engines and thats really all. In the performance world they are looked down on. But engine are able to reach 400 hp. It just how much money you want to blow on it. When you just buy a bigger engine. And gain Hp but increase cubic inches. Plus the bigger engine the part are easier to come by.
