I am trying to get a rough estimate here. I just got a 4.0L tacoma and I am wanting to twin turbo it. I dont know a TON about turbos. All I know is I want to buy 2 moderate turbos(nothing fancy) and you guys build the manifolds, lines, piping, etc.... I know the manifolds will be the biggest expense. Thanks in advance.

rear mount turbo is something god gave to diy tuners so we can stick it to the man.

i think it'd be sick on your car! LMK if you wanna do it, cause i might do an SC400 with a rear mount.

Since the turbos are mounted in the rear, the exhaust exiting the turbos are freaking SHORT. No matter how slow your going, EVERYONE behind you hears the turbos spoolin. A buddy has the kit on his C5 vette and it sounds insane following behind him.

they look liek theyre tucked enough between the rails that road junk and water would be a big problem, but it would be really easy to put a skidplate over it.

well are you gonna try and seal it off with the skidplate? lol

the skidplate should reaif you seal it off too much it could get too hot.

Im sure you are, but I think you should seriously consider this setup. It has been tried and trued on plenty of cars. IIRC, I think I saw a vid of a taco running around off road with this setup...

You just need a kit that's setup for your displacement and RPM's. The Tacoma setups i've seen on their site are for the 2.7L but i'm sure they have one that will work with the larger one.

No. I can get custom made turbo manifolds for 500 bucks and the piping made and 2 mediocre turbo's for 300 bucks. Fuk that ish. I can see 3500 bucks, for 5+k, nah...not worth it.

You're not just paying for the parts but all the R&D that went into making it a reliable and efficient kit. Are you doing it for the blow-off noise or for serious power gains? How much boost will be going through it? At what RPM range is your DIY kit going to spool? What size piping? How often do you plan to replace those $300 turbo's. How will it be tuned, etc? You're paying for all that research that took months to finalize for each vehicle.

...BUT $300 for two turbo's? Must be nice, my one turbo is going to be $1,200 for 500hp and the custom manifold just as much.

The thing you need to ask yourself is exactly what any shop is going to ask you, how much power are you wanting to put down and what's your budget.

im not going for max hp so why should I pay max price? I only need 2 cheap ass turbos. It doesnt matter. 6k for a few pipes is sh*t. Just b/c they fuked up on how to build the kit does not mean it is going to come out of my pocket.

It has nothing to do with putting down the highest number, it's producing a reliable and efficient setup. What size intercooler? Take everything apart, measure, order an intercooler and reassemble the car until it comes in...Add up the labor cost on that plus the time it takes to properly fabricate mounting brackets, etc. What size piping? Both 2.5" or 3" in and 2.5" out? Maybe 2.75"? Or just make it whatever and see if it gets choked up so it has to be fabricated again? What injectors? Using what standalone or piggyback setup to tune?

I have nothing against building your own setup but if you're not doing it yourself then you could easily spend as much or more as a pre-made kit that has been tested and is guaranteed to work the way it should.

If you want a quote from Batlground or any other shop I would suggest say what horsepower gain you plan and give somewhat of budget so they can go determine if it's realistic.

I understand where ur coming from. But some1 has already PM'd me about fabrication.

I am not looking for any significant power gains. Just something to have fun with w/o going S/C. The S/C setup is so ugly and i am tired of dealing with blowers.
