B16 VS B20

Chassis: 1991 Acura Integra LS

Question: Which swap would be ideal for this chassis? B16 or B20?

More Info(Will update as needed):
This motor would be an all motor setup. With the possiblity of going boost after switching back to a lower compression pistons.

I just wanted to know what everyone thinks. Again I didnt say anything about any other motor. The Poll is reguarding these two motors.

b20 is good but the sleeves/walls are thin and crack
me if it was my car i would do a ls/vtec

I gotta go with the b16 myself... but maybe I'm just showing favoritism. drmcivicsi is right though, an ls/vtec would kick ass. It all depends on what you plan on doing with the car aswell. The thing about the b16 is if you do plan on going boost, the compression is gunna be tricky. Im not sure, but boosting the b20 is gunna be more possible. it all comes down to $$$

well the b20 with its thin sleeves/walls i wouldnt boost just to be safe dont get me wrong u an boost it but be safe and have spare block laying around

b20 more torque. u can always go back and do a b20 vtec. and there's your hp

definately go with b16, more HP base and if you want to boost it later on it can be done. its not hard to boost the b16, you just need a good engine management setup when you do it and have it tuned.

more hp base, but in a DA chassis its garbage (power to weight ratio). If you want VTAKKKK then get a b16 (torqueless wonder), if it doesn't matter, just drop a LS b18a/b in there with a nice tranny such as the J1,S1,YS1.

I would think the b20, which i thought was a lower compression motor and a longer stroke so it would be more ideal if you are going the route of boost

b16...rev's high..so thats a plus for all motor..yea a b20 have more tq. but i personally would go for the b16.

b16 its really fun in the DA chassis, and it gives you alot more options because its good for all motor and its also good for boost. b20 meh its good as a replacement for a daily, but you would need to resleeve or use a block guard to have any FI fun and if i was going to seriously consider the b20 i would just get a b18a/b and lsvtec it bc it gives more options.

b20,I now someone with a b20 in there teg..It run very well,then you can allways vtec the b20 later...From a stop,b16 will not beat the b20. Your car is to heavy for the b16,thats my opinion.My friend races b16 tegs,all the time,he allways win...

I had b16a then boosted it,it was quick but blow it up. then i did b20 vtec
boosted it, big difference! depends on budget!

my shop has done many B20 swaps useing the LS intake cam and manifold to bring the B20 up to 160 fwhp. This will hold most drivers over until they decide to go vtec or use an aftermarket non-vtec cam. Either way boost or no boost save money for a hondata and tuning before you waste money on replacing motors.

Go with a 99-00 jdm spec b20b(146 HP, 133 Ft/lbs TQ) and find a p8r head(84mm combustion chambers) only made in 96'-98' honda orthia (head flows almost as good as vtec heads due to 33mm intake valves) and Ls tranny. Fuck vtec! Cruise that for awhile until you can afford forged cp pistons, forged eagle rods, golden eagle 84mm resleeve, and a turbo kit.

b20 vtec... my buddy has a fully built...rapes all manner of cars...g35 350z any other N/A honda... the list goes on, runs fine as well

well that depends on you...i have a b16 in my da and im whooping type R ass all day long..i have 161hp and 114ft lbs at the wheels..besides if your going all motor b16 is to go..just bore it out if you want to...

Not doubting, just wanting to know a little more about the engine??? Is it turbo or NA, I have had a couple on my dyno that were supposed to be pretty bad on the street and none have made over 200hp yet. I have had a couple grocery getter nissans and Mazda's on that are 250+.

I am working on a B18-B16VTec- bored , slightly stroked and I am shooting for 400hp NA. I will be documenting all of the work and plan on using mostly stock parts. I think the only parts I will have to go aftermarket on will be the cams, and valve springs as the type-R's are not big enough for enough airflow at 10,000+ rpm. I have spoken to a couple Cali time challenge road racers that have hit the number and if all goes well we should be pretty close.

We are 100% no-BS as we have a Chassis dyno on hand to verify the numbers.

Just wondering what other folks are using to make sic HP #'s.

mark, 400whp n/a out of any b series platform is gonna be a hellacious task.....you are gonna have to build a serious one off motor for that. vteckidd had an allmotor b series that was i believe the highest whp b series for a pretty good distance and it was ~240whp....its hard to make these motors go that high on just motor. you can slap a turbo on and have that power relatively easy, and much cheaper, though..jst a thought

someone said, b20 doesn't rev high... so what, you can make it REV high. 10 bolt block gurtle (typeo) and a darton crank, and some more vital parts. you can rev it to 11,000 if you wanted.

don't forget new main and cap bearings...i've turned 1 or 2 black and blue from 6500rpms(b16 Trans.)
